The Joint Venture including VINCI (33%), Dragados USA (42%), Flatiron Constructors (25%) has been awarded with a $3.3 design-build contract for the I-64 Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel Expansion Project (HRBT) in Virginia, which is the largest construction contract awarded in the history of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

Purpose: To provide expert advice on Geotechnical ground conditions coordinate the DJV and CJV effort on Geotechnics, as per the set standards and QHSE Policies to be used in construction Project. To support Design & Engineering Teams in interpreting geotechnical conditions to maximize the benefit and mitigate risk, to support Civil & Structural Engineering Designers as well as Dewatering Engineers. To manage and deliver Ground Investigation reports & analysis. Check the aptitude of the grounds to support architectural elements and/or infrastructures.

Principle Accountability and Responsibility:
To create Ground Bearing Reports from site investigation report and undertake support & review calculation for Ground bearing & Ground Invasive works
To analyse and to formulate specifications and method statements from those reports for the site investigation works
Assist the work teams for the realization of the earthworks, the foundations and the installation of the anti-scouring carpets (reception bottom of excavation, choice of materials for the granular bed, choice of materials for backfilling, etc.)
Manage the site investigation teams and contractors to deliver works to recognized standards
Carry out the sizing and the justification of any type of geotechnical work, provisional or definitive (foundation, soil improvement, retaining, slope stability, face, tablecloth, injection, etc.)
To manipulate structural model data - particular 3D files and model information
To report on the technical aspect of a design or structure and respond to reports as required
To be proactive in proposing technical variants and seeking innovation actively in Geotechnical delivery and techniques
Define the Geotechnical Assumptions for the temporary works
Involvement in the Ground Improvement definition, tender, execution
1. Design/Analysis

To provide technical advice & design support of Geotechnical issues with respect to project requirements and area of influence

Key Advisor to :
The HRCP Design Team in optimizing ground conditions within the design
The Construction Team on impact of ground works
The Project Team in maximizing the construction techniques
Achieve a close working relationship with the HRCP Design Team, the Construction Team and the Project Team and ensure that project needs have been understood / incorporated
Deliver the production of the project to SIM standards, in accordance with the needs of the collaborative environment approval/management process
To provide expert advice on material selection & testing for pavement & structural design
Make Quality and Safety integrated in all the process of design
Be proactive in reviewing the current procedures and methodologies and participate in their development
Consolidation and coordination of all relevant design data and incorporation of new items design data as required to enhance the design data
Review testing procedure & methodology in line with material selection & use
Review field and Ground Survey reports to assist design/cost and program optimization
2. Information Management : Ensuring the right information gets to the right people at the right time

Provide Geotechnical & Topographical data in a multi usable format
Participate in meetings with the representatives of the Client and more generally with the representatives of all the parties, authorities and third administrations concerned by the geotechnical studies
3. Quality : Auditing of reports & analysis and other project data for compliance with standards information requirements

Perform internal control of the documents produced by the consulting firms in charge of the various geotechnical missions (supports, installations ...)
Perform some geotechnical checks (installation of bases, slope stability ...)

Education and Experience:
Required:
Engineering degree in geotechnical studies or a related field
Demonstrable track record of working 10 years minimum on a verity of large complex construction projects with 5 years in the construction industry, preferably on large infrastructure projects

Strongly Encouraged:
Previous experience in the US is a plus
Tunnel Experience is appreciated
Professional Engineer Certificate (P.Eng/P.E./C.Eng) or equivalent – PE, VA is highly appreciated
