This position will be filled at either the Software Developer 1/Software Developer 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Software Developer 1 ($61,500 - $97,700)
The successful candidate will need the following:
Minimum of a Bachelor degree in computer science or related field with 2 years of web application development experience;
Previous experience in developing software in Linux;
Experience in using source code control (Git);
Previous experience in data visualization using D3 or other libraries;
Able to write clear software documentation;
Proficiency in technical communication both in written and verbal.
Software Developer 2 ($73,800 - $120,400)
In addition to the duties outlined above, the (Software Developer 2) will have the following:
Master degree in computer science or related field with 5 years of web application development experience;
Previous experience in software development life cycle management;
More than 2 years of experience in serving as a software development team lead.
An understanding of biology and genomics;
An understanding of various sequencing platforms;
Experience in developing web application for scientific computing and data visualization;
Experience in developing open source software as a team member;
Experience in software containers and container orchestration systems;
Understanding object-oriented programming;
Experience using collaboration and tracking tools such as JIRA and Confluence;
Experience working as part of Agile software development teams;
Experience in Python and R/Bioconductor;
Experience in continuous development and continuous integration.
Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which usually requires U.S. citizenship.
Software Developer 1 Education Required: Bachelor degree in computer science or related field with 2 years of web application development experience;
Software Developer 2 Education Required: Master degree in computer science or related field with 5 years of web application development experience;

Where You Will Work
Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.
A major threat our Nation’s security is the uncontrolled outbreak of infectious disease. Stopping the spread of disease—from naturally occurring or manmade threats—requires an in-depth understanding of pathogens, how they work, the host response to pathogens, as well as advanced methods for detection, diagnosis, and treatment. The Biosecurity and Public Health Group (B-10) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) tackles these challenges using an array of sophisticated approaches, including advanced genomics and bioinformatics.
This is a funded fulltime position at Los Alamos National Laboratory, one of the largest research institution in the world. At this position, the candidate will work closely with scientists to develop world class web applications that enable advanced methods for pathogen detection, diagnosis, and treatment and promote public health.
