The Program Management/Construction Management group of Aptim is seeking a highly experienced and talented Mechanical Engineer Inspector (Junior and Mid-Level) to join an existing project team in the New York/New Jersey region. This Engineer will plan, develop, coordinate and manage onsite construction inspection activities on major Capital Infrastructure projects in the area of vertical buildings, bridges/tunnels, water/wastewater treatment plants, and port/harbors construction projects. The Mechanical Engineer will help Resident Engineer manage project inspection functions and activities.
The Mechanical Engineer must be capable of analyzing all technical aspects of mechanical items, reviewing and recommending major construction changes and supervising construction engineering activities for their projects.
Will be responsible for performing constructability reviews of design documents; analysing all technical aspects of construction, reviewing and recommending major construction changes to the resident engineer, and supervising construction inspection activities for all phases of the project life-cycle for their projects such as HVAC, Air Balancing, Plumbing, Underground & Above Grounds Tanks & appurtenances, Water Pumps, Fire Sprinkler System, BMS, Major Mechanical Equipment (HRUs, Fire Pumps, Hydraulic Lifts, other Industrial Equipment etc.)
Monitor construction progress and quality (as per mechanical codes)
Facilitate and/or coordinate resolutions to questions or other construction issues
Review RFI's, Submittals and Change Orders
Participate in project meetings and planning sessions
Leading commissioning and start-up testing management
Responsible for enforcing safety and quality requirements, help with processing payments, negotiating claims and change orders, supervising inspectors, and will represent construction progress in project meetings.
Will serve as the technical representative for the management and inspection of contractor construction activities.
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college
Junior Level: Must have 3-5 years' experience on major Capital Infrastructure projects and be NICET Level II and/or ACI Level I or II
Mid-Level: Must have 5-10 years' experience on major Capital Infrastructure projects and be NICET Level III and/or ACI Level III
New York and/or New Jersey Professional Engineers License desired; Engineer-In-Training (EIT) and or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) will be considered
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word & Excel)
Strong data, reporting and financial analysis skills
Excellent communication skills
Demonstrated success in problem solving and delivering innovative solutions
Interacts well in a dynamic, office team environment
10 hr. OSHA Construction Cert preferred
