The convenience store retail business is the largest 7-Eleven licensee in the United States and operates approximately 300 convenience stores in central and west Texas and New Mexico.
A Process Control Engineer is familiar with typical industry-accepted plant automation platforms and possesses general knowledge of midstream oil and gas operations. This role will work as part of Delek Logistics’ Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls Engineering team to develop all aspects of facility process logic, facility automation, SCADA, and HMI applications, and will function in a lead support role. Assignments will feature both new and upgraded assets, developing new applications and leading troubleshooting efforts and root-cause investigations into existing process controls issues. The Engineer should be well-rounded in common industrial platforms, including Modicon, Allen-Bradley, Wonderware or similar, Pi and SQL data historians, and advanced configuration and programming work. Familiarity with regulated control room management, alarm management, pipeline operations, PHMSA and DOT compliance, process safety, and cause-and-effect studies, and functional specifications, are a strong plus.
The Engineer must function with a high level of accountability for their system and related applications. The engineer must layout goals and objectives to achieve a zero failure rate and 100% compliance with all Delek Logistics design standards, operating philosophies, management of change, ISA and IEEE recommended practices, and PHMSA regulations. The Engineer must function as the advocate for continuous improvement and operational excellence related to industrial automation applied to oil & gas facilities.
Description & Responsibilities
Develop sophisticated industrial automation, plant control, database and data communication applications, using state-of-the-art software, across a wide range of applications.
Create mid-to-complex process logic controller (PLC) applications for pipeline midstream facilities. Develop upon common Allen-Bradley Logix, ABB FlowX, Omni, and Modicon platforms.
Develop HMI visualization applications. These applications are developed in a multitude of proprietary programming languages designed by vendor companies including GE, Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Schneider, Wonderware, to name a few. Additional experience in other programming languages such as Microsoft Visual Basic, C++/C#, Microsoft SQL Server is very beneficial.
Develop functional specifications, cause & effect diagrams, controls narratives, I/O lists, and SCADA configuration sheets for remote and locally monitored facilities
Design, program, test, integrate, and support PLC programming for complex site-wide process controls platforms, including Allen-Bradley RS Logix, Modicon, and FlowX.
Work and function independently and on large multi-discipline project teams, as needed.
Attend factory acceptance testing (FAT), conduct and verify customer acceptance testing (CAT), schedule and coordinate SCADA point-to-point activities with Pipeline Operations and Capital Project teams, as necessary.
Act as subject matter expert for Delek Logistics’ process controls and automation procedures and standards. Evaluate, develop, modify, revise, and assist with rollout of new standards, policies, and procedures.
Represent Delek Logistics’ project teams and coordinate with vendors/suppliers responsible for providing process controls systems, components, racks, software, communications, and related equipment.
Utilize and follow Delek’s management of change process for all programming changes and site upgrades.
Remain current and up-to-date on industry trends, technological developments, cyber security improvements, design standards, regulatory changes, and vendor hardware life cyles (end-of-life replacement recommendations).
Participate in industry-sponsored events and training, as available.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or another related field, or 10+ years of documented practical experience working with PLC’s and related control systems with oil & gas operations.
2-5 years experience in software programming, design, and analysis, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in C++, C#, Visual Basic, and/or other advanced languages.
Experience in SQL with a major RDBMS.
Advanced-to-experienced knowledge of object-oriented computer programming and algorithms
Familiarity with ladder logic programming and common industry platforms, as it applies to rugged PLC and RTU architecture.
Familiarity with common industry-grade HMI platforms, including FactoryTalk and Wonderware.
Familiarity with hazardous industrial process logic and control systems. Direct experience with liquids midstream pipeline operating facilities or other oil & gas facilities is a plus.
Good knowledge of SQL Server and OSIsoft Pi structures and stored procedures
Able to read and understand P&ID drawings, electrical single-line drawings, and terminal block diagrams.
Ability to understand and develop HMI’s in relationship to a cause and effect matrix
Understands concepts of the software development lifecycle
Ability to function as a designer, developer, and tester, where applicable
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to solve complex problems and think analytically
Comfortable in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Most work assignments will be home office based, but the successful candidate must be willing to travel up to 50% during startups and commissioning, including nights, weekends, and holidays during critical activities and emergencies.
A working understanding of computer networking and communications.
Expert technical knowledge of SCADA systems is required
Thorough knowledge and understanding of networking, data radio systems, TCP/IP and other relevant systems
Experience with Allen Bradley PLC’s, FlowX Spirit Systems, Omni Flow computers, G3 systems
Experience with Wonderware HMI and SCADA platforms
Ability to comprehend and analyze complex data including large data sets
Experience working and managing third party contractors and vendors
Ability to maintain confidentiality, work under pressure and motivate employees in an encouraging manner
