Reporting to the VP of Engineering, the Wind Resource Suitability Engineer will be guiding the selection of suitable WTG model types for various wind regimes and other site characteristics; analyzing the project energy yield potential. This role supports customers by developing optimized windfarm design layouts and works closely with the Technical, Sales and Engineering Teams in North America and China to promote organizational development/capability in the site suitability discipline.
Analyze customer supplied wind data for integrity, completeness and integrate into standard report format
Determine overall site climatological characteristics and integrate into standard report format
Conduct comprehensive client data correlation studies using public databases as a reference
Improve site assessment process and implement new tools to reduce response time to customers
Ensure environmental compliance with regulation, customer requirements and industry best practices.
Determine suitability of specific WTG models and/or model configurations for commercial consideration and develop project AEP estimates
Conduct detailed spatial analysis related to turbine performance characteristics and windfarm design constraints
Lead the initiative to collaborate with GW structural engineering, electrical engineering and loads analysis teams in Beijing (as the primary sponsor for all candidate projects of the GW USA office) to define suitable WTG type and/or or develop application strategies for optimum customer solution
Investigate and follow emerging practice, market and technology elements of the site suitability discipline among competitors with goal of communicating and instituting those advancements company-wide in cooperation with Goldwind headquarters.
Required Education and or Experience:
5 - 7 years' engineering work experience in an industrial product manufacturing or industrial product service environment or a combination of a BS degree in a physics based or engineering-based discipline (MS desired) from a 4 year accredited university and 4 years relevant Engineering experience
2 of the total years' experience must be in the wind industry specifically performing wind resource assessment and/or loads suitability analysis
Experience operating Windfarmer, Windpro, Wasp, Openwind, Windographer or other analysis programs
Experience with GIS and CFD (e.g. Meteodyn) software
Experience creating and presenting technical reports to top management and end-use customers

Able to travel overseas for 6 - 8 weeks the first year and 2 -3 weeks annually per year thereafter
Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project etc.)
Chinese language, Spanish language skills desired, but not required
