The Process Excellence Engineer acts as part of a team of internal experts working across the system to deliver performance excellence coaching and project leadership. In addition to working on broad cultural transformation, this individual will be responsible for leading complex improvement projects that deliver sustained and measurable results, lead and mentor others, and support knowledge transfer of process improvement methods and practices through training and development of the workforce at all levels of the organization. Provides data analysis and/or discrete event simulation to improve the efficiency and efficacy of all HNL operations by identifying bottlenecks and building models to manage capacity and enhance capabilities. Leads improvement projects by working directly with clinical and non-clinical areas to understand current operating procedures, develops recommendations/solutions for improvement, facilitates the implementation of those solutions, and leverages data to monitor progress and support sustainability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Facilitates implementation of performance management and governance systems across the organization to ensure performance goals are established and sustained.
Embeds a culture of process excellence throughout the organization at all levels and across all functions. Leads and facilitates improvement events and projects of a complex nature with minimal oversight, including assessment, planning, event facilitation, and follow-up/sustaining outcomes. Meets quality standards and the production of expected deliverables during all phases of the event and project life cycle.
Builds strong relationships with leaders. Establishes rapport with project team members, providers, direct managers, stakeholders and frontline staff.
Utilizes strong project management skills for each initiative including: developing clear project charters, proper scoping, timeline management, data collection, and pre-project communication plans. Keeps projects on track and key sponsors informed. Utilizes escalation plans and countermeasures when project timelines or outcomes are at risk.
Teaches, mentors, and coaches leadership teams in establishing and maintaining the strategic focus areas, action plans, dashboards, linked measurement system, and checking process to execute the work.
Teaches improvement mindset and concepts for all levels of the organization through classroom, workshop, and project-based coaching.
Demonstrates time management and organization in the building of discrete event simulation models and/or process excellence projects. Collaborates with peers and supervisors to validate technical assumptions. Prepares operational and clinical assumptions for validation by steering committee or project team.
Facilitates large projects and coaches others on using improvement methods such as; Kaizen, 5S Workshops, A3s, Standard Work, Value Stream Mapping, etc. Serves as a subject matter expert for such tools and concepts. Coaches and develops peers and process excellence staff to grow their Lean technical and consulting skills.
Collaborates with other team members to collect and analyze Lean process data, identifies opportunities, develop solutions, implement improvements, and help operational management ensure sustainability.
Provides management with adequate data to measure success and determine the best metrics for monitoring. Assists management with data analysis and interpretation.
Leverages non-healthcare solutions to solve problems in healthcare. Leverages results to create related models or spread improvements to other areas. Seeks opportunities to apply models or projects in similar settings.
Acts as a change agent to instill process improvement culture throughout the organization. Communicates regularly with management, team leaders, process owners, and other stakeholders about team progress toward goal achievement, critical factors and obstacles. Promotes innovation and presents unconventional alternatives while collaborating on dashboards with the Information Services Department.

Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university; Master’s Degree preferred. 5-8 years related experience in process excellence or closely related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Healthcare experience preferred. Must have or be willing to obtain certification to train and certify others in Lean Transformation, Lean Six Sigma or related concepts within two years of hire.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Must have a sound working knowledge of statistical concepts, methods and data collection procedures.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Must have the ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships.
Ability to use Microsoft office products and various other computer software products including the Laboratory Information System. Experience with database management and analytics, administration of data feeds, version controls, and maintenance of dimension tables. Ability to manipulate and extract data.
Understands basic business concepts such as revenue cycle and revenue generation, profitability, resource optimization, sales and client management. Must be able to research information and analyze data to arrive at valid conclusions, recommendations, and plans of action. Must have the ability to plan, coordinate, and assist staff engaged in various professional, technical, and clerical functions.
Certificates and Licenses:
Professional certification to train and certify others in Lean Transformation, Lean Six Sigma or related concepts desired.
