The position is located in the Systems Engineering and Architecture Division, Aeronautics and Ground-Based Systems Branch within the John Glenn Research Center. The selectee will perform flight systems work involving requirements definition, integration of mission needs, systems architectures and systems requirements into design, systems engineering, and development of space flight and ground-based systems.
Serves as a systems engineer developing and evaluating architectures, identifying requirements, assessing technology needs, and developing systems for aeronautics projects, with a focus on future regional/transport-class electrified aircraft.
Interacts with the Federal Aviation Administration, standards committees, industry, and NASA teams to help inform and advance future standards and specifications for electrified aircraft.
Assists projects in identifying and advocating for future NASA testing efforts needed to satisfy identified technical challenges.
Leads multi-disciplinary teams in the accomplishment of project objectives, which may include flight testing of new technology, development of ground-based test articles, and configuration of testing facilities.
Works with the NASA electrified aircraft propulsion demonstrator team(s) to help oversee Industry-led work with respect to power quality, standards, safety, and powertrain architectures.
Serves as a subject matter expert in design reviews of electrified aircraft systems and proposal evaluations.
Plans and conducts tests, verifications, validations and evaluation of equipment, components, subsystems or systems based on established plans and design, safety and operational requirements.
Directs and manages Systems Engineering activities, inter-disciplinary development and design on projects for the development of space and aeronautical flight and ground systems, vehicles, and/or payloads.
Defines and documents technical work and assessment processes. Manages technical requirements over the system life cycle.

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-12), which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.
To qualify for the GS-13 level:
One year of specialized experience includes testing and validating aerospace flight and ground based systems; developing space and aeronautical flight systems, vehicles, ground systems, and/or payloads; and defining interconnection of system parts, documenting and managing system configurations, and technical performance measurement.
In order to qualify for this position you must meet Basic Education Requirement
Applicants must have successfully completed an undergraduate or graduate degree with a major in either a) engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs or b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, Computer Science*, Other fields of science.
- Note: Curriculum must include 30 semester hours of course work in a combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science. Of the 30 semester hours, 15 must be in any combination of statistics and mathematics which includes differential and integral calculus.
Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position.
