We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join the Product Test & Reliability Engineering team in Florence, SC.


Manage Code Committee participation by Otis Florence engineers, the process, logistics, and the coordination with other departments in the organization to maintain and influence the engineering and code requirements for Otis products

Responsible for providing code expertise and training related to U.S. & Canadian elevator code, International Building Code (IBC), NFPA, UL, CSA, and other code requirements for elevators, escalators, and moving walkways
Support the (DFR) Design for Reliability and (DFI) Design for Installability requirements for new product introduction within code compliance requirements
Support Reliability and Code priorities and projects, including planning, resources, coordinating with internal and external customers to insure compliance
Coordinate Otis (Florence) code committee activity and provide regular updates to engineering regarding code changes, implementation, effectivity, and interpretations
Work with integrated product development teams to assist in strategic test planning with respect to what needs to be tested, how it will be tested and where to verify and validate the code compliance, along with reliability, installibility, and serviceability of the finished products
Insure timely code reviews are conducted with design teams, management, and quality review boards to meet schedule requirements
Operate within facility and company safety policies
Support component and system level troubleshooting and coordinate issue resolution and root cause analysis to meet code & safety compliance
Support the Field Turnback (FTB) process to determine safety, code, and business issues, their priorities, ISO risk analysis, and business cases to support resolution
Coordinate new product performance and reliability tests for code compliance
Support the local installibility and serviceability evaluations of components prior to release
Responsible for reviewing and analyzing the data, reports and presentation of results in a timely manner for go/no-go decisions on code & safety compliance
Represent Codes on the Product & Service Safety Committee
Business travel estimated at 10%

Bachelor's degree in a related field and 7+ years' related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Sound understanding of quality, reliability, and test engineering principles, basic mechanical design, and understand basic fabrication and assembly required
Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required
Clear, concise communication abilities
Process and safety oriented
Works with sense of urgency
Organized and efficient
Experience with Labview and Matlab software preferred
Previous responsibility for testing, analysis and reporting to meet code compliance, company performance, engineering, quality requirements and national/international standards/codes preferred
