Position Summary/ Primary Purpose
The Marine & Powertrain Development Engineer is an incredibly important member of our elite engineering team here at Ilmor. Focused on multiple programs and designs, no two days will ever be alike. You will be responsible for dreaming, sketching, drawing, proving, producing, validating and supporting various powertrain design efforts and other special projects. At any given moment you might be out on the water on our development boats, in our engineering lab, at a vendor/supplier, on the computer knee-deep in design work, leading a design review meeting, collaborating with our CNC programmers & machinists, supporting engines with our Dyno team, or on a trip to support our field staff (limited travel).
This is the perfect pure mechanical engineering role for you if you are high energy, have rock-solid drawing/design skills, you know the ins and outs of GD&T and design for manufacturability, and you've got a proven ability to solve problems with the perfect blend of creativity, evidence-based assumptions and data.

Utilize Solidworks to design innovative components
Leverage your skills in FEA & CFD to complete predictive analyses
Drive the development and prototyping process
Lead DFMEA/DVP&R activities
Deliver results on time and within budget
Support our rigorous testing and launch processes
20% Deliver Phenomenal Support & Service
Drive validation processes on dynamometer, test benches and on open-water tests
Support technical field service issues with your engineering expertise
20% Investigate and Diagnose
Propose efficiency solutions for components and lead the validation process
Lead and liaise both internal and external suppliers to resolve production/product issues
This job will be based out of Plymouth, Michigan with expected travel to be approximately 15%
Education & Experience
5+ of relevant, post-graduate professional experience
High energy and a passion for boating & being out on the water
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering required Or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering degree with strong understanding of Powertrain Applications.
Proficient in CAD (specifically SolidWorks)
Hands-on powertrain engine knowledge
Hands-on boating experience and an understanding of boat rigging
Proficient with computers and Microsoft applications
Must be data driven and capable of processing large amounts of data
Data acquisition and post processing experience
Able to work well on a team and independently
Calibration experience preferred but not required
Demonstrated Physical Abilities/Work Environment
This is a hands-on role and will involve time out on the water in our development boats and working in our engineering and manufacturing space. The candidate will be expected to stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, laugh, and twist
Authority (to take action/make decisions):
Involved in recommendations to Senior Management, and is involved in decision making on projects or programs. Is accountable for quality and delivery of customer satisfaction.
