This is an introductory, journeyman level position that provides growth opportunity based on your ability to learn and acquire skills. This opportunity could lead to a full-time position with our company and to take part in profit-sharing.
The job starts out as Wednesday - Friday, 24 hours per week, 8 hours per day, 10am - 7pm. 1 hour unpaid lunch break.
Increase in hourly rate and work hours/full-time position is possible based on acquired and demonstrated skills.
Work location Irvine, California.
Must be passionate about programming / love to write code.
Will be asked to provide samples of code written in school or elsewhere. Will be asked to demonstrate ability to write code.
Ideal candidate writes code on their own time for the love of it and also helps teach or show others how to do this and not because they needed to for school.
Must be a person of honesty, high ethics and integrity.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to learn quickly and apply resulting knowledge in a practical manner.
Independent self-starter with a positive attitude.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
You will also learn to support an enterprise-wide payroll application including the creation of reports, trouble-shooting problems, providing support to users, support and modification of payroll interfaces, providing support and customization of programs written in VB.NET, "C", Cobol and/or Microsoft Access including ability to perform database queries and updates.
You will also learn skills required to support a Timekeeping system that feeds data into a payroll system.
Experience programming in VB.NET, Open Insight/AREV32, “C” or Cobol.
Any experience with Payroll, Timekeeping, FLSA, labor laws or accounting.
Experience using a relational database, ideally Oracle.
Experience using Microsoft Access, Argos and/or Crystal Reports.
Fire department or Public Safety or Ellucian Banner product or Open Insight/AREV32 experience a plus.
Bachelor's degree or pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field and holds a 3.0 GPA or better.
Applicants will be given test assignments and asked to demonstrate existing skills and knowledge.
