Applies standard engineering techniques to perform reliability studies and calculations of component/system reliabilities. Develop analysis methods to determine reliability of components, equipment and processes. Prepares diagrams, charts, drawings, calculations and reports to define reliability problems and make recommendations for improvements. Assumes responsibility to lead small to mid-sized capital projects. Support the development and implementation of the facility(s) capital plan.

2. Project Management
Responsible for project leadership, support, and coordination of implementation of capital and other engineering related improvements involving the following major areas: cheese and whey processing, buildings/facilities, specifications, utilities, equipment, electrical, automation and controls, contract administration, start-up, and commissioning.
Collaborate with others to define scope and overall management of projects including: determining project objectives, timelines, budgets, resources, tasks, and supervising progress to ensure objectives are being met.
Responsible for identification, specification, requisitioning, and coordination with procurement for the purchase and delivery of project components and equipment necessary for implementation of projects.
Examine, review, and approve documents such as purchase orders, blueprint designs, change orders, and specifications to ensure completeness and accuracy.
Direct the work and activities of suppliers, contractors, consultants, and designers as required.
3. Technical Duties
Conducts analyses of reliability problems and investigates to help determine the required reliability approach for the particular situation, with consideration given to the cost impact and limitations for equipment uptime/downtime, repair/replacement costs and weight, and size and availability of materials/equipment.
Support manufacturing operations in overall optimization of the performance of the facility by assisting with development and implementation of reliability methods and controls to meet quality and cost efficiency standards.
Estimates engineering personnel needs and coordinates the use of other engineers and technicians to accomplish the objective of cost-effective reliability improvements for projects.
Analyzes preliminary engineering-design concepts to recommend design or test methods for attaining customer-specified operational reliability, using knowledge of reliability engineering and other technologies: Analyzes preliminary plans and develops reliability engineering program to achieve customer’s reliability objectives. Analyzes projected product utilization and calculates cumulative effect on final system reliability of individual part reliabilities.
Drafts failure mode and effect analysis sheets or formulates mathematical models, using computer-aided engineering equipment, to identify units posing excessive failure risks and support proposed changes in design.
Enters data to simulate electrical inputs, transient conditions, temperature, stress, and other factors to develop computer models, and analyzes and adjusts design to predict and improve system reliability.
Advises and confers with engineers and maintenance in design review meetings to give reliability findings and recommendations.
Determines units requiring environmental testing and specifies minimum number of samples to obtain statistically valid data.
Reviews subcontractors' proposals for reliability program and submits evaluation for decision.
Observes conduct of tests at supplier, plant, or field locations to evaluate reliability factors, such as numbers and causes of unit failures.
Monitors failure data generated by customer using product to ascertain potential requirement for product improvement.
Develop, assess and implement techniques and equipment of low to moderate complexity used in production process to maximize the reliability of the operations.
Support the continuous improvement and optimization of the manufacturing processes, with a focus on a preventative maintenance / reliability based structure, downtime minimization, and system efficiencies.
Liaison with Maintenance Team to design and layout plant preventative maintenance, reliability, and repair work.
Involved in organizing plant shutdown projects and other facility initiatives.
4. Additional Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with federal, state and local codes.
Provide liaison on project, facilities and equipment with regulatory agencies.
Participate in professional organizations to maintain current knowledge of technical innovations.
