Position is responsible for the successful development and execution of Product Development according to customer specifications. Successful performance in this position can progress toward Project Engineer position. This is a semi-hands-on role responsible for Engineering and design on new or existing product with an emphasis on designing for manufacturability. Objective is for the development of the vehicle Systems, Subsystems and Components meet targets of Quality, Cost & Timing.
Design and release components and systems in-line with customer requirements.
Identify and recommend options for improving quality, reducing cost, improving time to market and solving problems.
Working in cross functional team, Engineer the mechanical systems for company products.
Plan, schedule and implement project tasks within targeted cost, quality and timing deadlines.
Apply engineering principles to the design of structures used in frames and accessories of forklift equipment, including parts supporting major components of hydraulic, and electrical systems.
Create and maintain bills of material.
Create layouts and detail drawings utilizing current Engineering CAD software.
Develop subject matter expertise in one or more technology areas to insure company products are utilizing the best solutions for features and functions.
Works with suppliers to communicate requirements.
Supervises building and testing of prototypes.
Organizes and analyzes test and design analysis dates.
Ensures cross functional engagement and requirements with Manufacturing, Service, Supplier Management to insure requirements are met during development.
Reviews drawings, designs, machining and welding processes with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure cost effective and manufacturable parts.
Supports Current Product Engineering to address in-field, production, and service requests
Supports requests for change to current product, for unique features & functions as requested by customers.
Seeks to reduce costs through Value Analysis activity in coordination with accounting, manufacturing, supplier development and purchasing.
Completion of timely review, analyses and appropriate dispositions of all assigned Suggestions.
Handle multiple tasks and deadlines to support customer demand
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field.
1+ years design and development experience in the forklift, Material Handling or related industry such as Automotive, Agricultural, Construction, and/or mobile industrial equipment.
Proficiency with layout design, applied physics and engineering principles, analytical solutions, creative problem solving.
Good verbal and written communications skills required along with a demonstrated teamwork attitude.
Electrical experience a plus.
Knowledge of common vehicle components (frame, drive train, hydraulics, harness, motor, battery, relay, etc...)
Ability to create and read component and installation drawings
Able to create specifications for components as required by customer requirements
Able to understand and execute designs which will mount/install and integrate with the product
Working knowledge of DFMEA, Six Sigma principles and tools, 8D problem solving and manufacturing/assembly.
