High School graduate or equivalent;
At least ten years’ experience preferred;
General computer knowledge;
Ability to read and understand diagram blue prints;
Knowledge of state and local building and safety codes;
Work rotating shifts and weekends;
Valid drivers’ license.
LANGUAGE/ COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing;
Ability to communicate effectively in an emergency situation;
Must be able to promote positive behavior in others;
Ability to utilize the internet, intranet and e-mail;
Ability to utilize radio and paging system.
Maintain accurate maintenance records on each piece of equipment for which the Shift Engineer Shop is responsible using an Equipment Management System documenting the prompted information according to hospital policy;
Complete all assigned work requestors generated manually and/or by computer in a timely manner insuring patient, visitor and hospital personnel satisfaction, for the facility and outlying clinics and document prompted information in the Work Requestor Program (Work Order System);
Make minor adjustments on pneumatic tube system, TVs and nurse call on all shifts, weekends and holidays to ensure minimal inconvenience to patients, visitors and hospital personnel;
Respond promptly to all calls dispatched and/or paged for maintenance and/or repair of the facility and outlying clinics to ensure minimal inconvenience for the patients, visitors and hospital personnel;
Make minor adjustments and calibrations in patient care areas in the facility, on heating, ventilation and air-conditioning thermostats and related controls, minor plumbing and electrical repairs in a timely manner for patients, visitors and hospital personnel;
Repair and/or replace electrical switches, fuses, receptacles and lights and ballasts in order to maintain continuity of service and achieve high productivity;
Respond to fire alarms and assist in order to protect and maintain the hospital and create a safe environment for patients, visitors and hospital personnel following hospital policies and procedures, state and local codes. Reset fire alarm systems when necessary;
Perform preventive maintenance on designated equipment and document as required on lights, hot water samples, following state and local safety codes and the policy and procedures of Southeast Health.
