We are seeking a Supply Base Development Engineer – Plastic Joining to play an important role in helping to assure the smooth and successful transition of DEKA's innovative products into volume manufacturing. As our plastic joining expert you will be an integral part of the design process, providing valuable input to the design team on manufacturing methods and joint designs and in helping arrive at a manufacturable design. You will also lead the supplier’s development of joining tooling, equipment and process to assure that all parts manufactured by suppliers meet DEKA requirements.

How you will make an impact:
As an integral part of the product development team, provide appropriate design review and input on applicable plastic welding and joining methods to the DEKA product design team.
Provide direction and input to the development team on manufacturing feasibility and design for optimized joining of plastic parts.
Provide leadership at suppliers during joining tool, equipment and process development to quickly resolve all technical issues.
Lead & work with Global plastic joining equipment and tooling suppliers to develop robust joint designs and joining processes.
Aid plastic tool and process engineers to drive wide process windows for molding of joint features.
Explore/introduce advanced joining technologies (i.e. induction, laser, adhesives etc) in support of DEKA product development.
Function as technical liaison with the supplier on joining tooling, equipment and process development, assuring the capability of the process to produce parts to specification.
Help drive Design Transfer activities as project moves from development to volume production.
Work with Supply Chain managers to identify new suppliers and to evaluate suppliers technical and manufacturing capabilities.
Team with DEKA Supply Base Development Engineer – Quality to drive the appropriate APQP activities (process flow document, PFMEA, Control Plan, etc) in a timely manner.
Support the supplier identification and evaluation process with development of templates for definition of tool and process details needed with quotes.

To be successful in this role, you will need the following skills and experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Plastics or Manufacturing) required.
Solid technical background in physics and engineering disciplines with appropriate experience acceptable.
5 + years of hands-on experience in developing plastic part joint designs and in joining process and equipment optimization.
Experience in a wide variety of plastic joining technologies such as ultrasonic, laser, hot plate, etc.
