Job Description: The Associate Manufacturing Engineer reports to the Engineering and Operations Manager (Novi) and will be responsible for manufacturing activities on his shift including material handling, machine operation, troubleshooting, data collection, and others.

Job Core Responsibilities:
  • Complies with established job safety practices, policies and procedures as specified in pilot plant and corporate directives for the safe performance of the work assignment.
  • Performs duties as required to insure compliance with the pilot plant's quality standards.
  • Performs various manual or mechanical production functions by operating, adjusting, and repairing the production equipment to meet customer specifications.
  • Is responsible for handling and monitoring manufacturing machines in the pilot plant, ensuring that everything is running smoothly and according to schedule.
  • Perform routine equipment setup verifying proper operation of pilot plant machines.
  • Performs troubleshooting on pilot production equipment as required.
  • Support creation or update of standard operating procedures, maintenance plans, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on pilot production equipment as required.
  • Conducts inspection of in-process materials and in-process and finished product.
  • Performs record keeping duties as required under the direction of management.
  • Accesses, inputs, and retrieves information from the computer.
  • Communicates pertinent information to next shift.
  • Complies with environmental regulations when using, dispensing, or handling hazardous and non-hazardous materials and wastes.
  • Perform several simple lab tests trained by Battery Test Engineer.
  • Report daily and weekly to Manager.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring for operators or technicians along with the responsibility for actively promoting a workplace free of discrimination and harassment.
  • Observe all company, state and federal safety and environmental regulations
  • Able to work at the 3rd shift (11pm to 7:30am). Work time may change depending on situation.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and experience:
  • Minimum of a BS in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science
  • Experience working with hazardous materials and processes
  • Knowledge of lithium ion battery materials or materials synthesis a plus
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
  • Capable of wearing task specific personal protective equipment including dust mask, respirator, safety shoes, gloves, and safety glasses/face shield
  • Capable of meeting OSHA standards for manual lifting guidelines: < 50lbs
  • While performing the duties of this job it is required to stand, walk, and use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands or arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch
