BAE Systems has an exciting opening for a Manufacturing Project Engineer supporting our explosives manufacturing facility in Kingsport TN. In this role, you will participate as a member of the Manufacturing Technical Support Team reporting to the Manufacturing Technical Support Manager. This role will provide the primary interface between Manufacturing and Engineering in defining manufacturing projects, priority, and scope development. In addition, this role will interface with the Project Management group to develop, prioritize, and assist with hand over to Manufacturing modernization projects affecting the manufacturing plant. This role could also be called upon to lead process hazard analysis (PHA) evaluations and assist in the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the operating areas.
This role will be faced with managing multiple small projects that support manufacturing. The ideal candidate for this role will have the ability to both work in the field developing scope and ensuring construction activities are proceeding and be able to discuss project priority with Production Management to help focus future efforts. In many cases, this individual will be the entire project team responsible for not only developing the scope of a project but also performing design calculations, submitting purchase requests for equipment, submitting management of change documentation for review and approval, directing field labor in execution, and performing start-up and turn over activities. At other times, this individual will be called upon to interface with the Project Management group on large projects to help develop scope and define priority for submission to the customer for funding, as well as, provide start-up support for commissioning activities. In this function the Technical Support Project Engineer will be a member of a larger team representing the interests of the Manufacturing Department.
In summary, the ideal candidate for this role will need the ability to flow effortlessly between leading or executing multiple small projects that potentially stretch over long durations for implementation due to process availability to supporting large multi-year efforts as a team member focusing on the interests of the Manufacturing Department.
Required Skills and Education
Bachelor's degree in engineering (Chemical or equivalent) from a four year accredited university plus a minimum of four (4) years of experience in the execution of engineering projects related to chemical manufacturing operations.
Eight (8) years experience in the execution of engineering projects related to chemical manufacturing operations will be considered in the absence of a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.
