The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for performing a variety of mechanical design tasks to support the development and commercialization of new products and technologies for inspection and monitoring of infrastructure, as well as the sustainment of and application support for existing products.
Skills & Experience
Apply theory and principles of mechanical engineering to modify, test, and develop mechanical components for products up to and including mechanical product architectures in concert with other disciplines
Design to relevant standards and regulations, working with regulatory team to move product successfully through certification processes
Develop and execute test plans to validate products meet the performance requirements specifications, which may include field testing at remote sites
Review client and/or internal drawings and figures to apply existing technologies and adapt as required to meet to client's specific needs
Model components with 3D CAD and draft detailed drawings for manufacture by machine shops
Discuss changes in design, method of manufacture and assembly, and drafting techniques and procedures with staff and coordinate corrections
Set up and conduct tests of complete devices and components under operational conditions
Deliver assistance to internal groups such as Manufacturing, Delivery, and Delivery Support groups by creating and maintaining technical documentation
Coordinate and execute engineering change orders within a PLM system
Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:
BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 2-4+ years of relevant experience.
Able to perform routine tasks with minimal supervision; but also, able to work effectively within the team dynamic
Ability to work collaboratively with and accept feedback from internal groups and other departments
Have a proactive approach to addressing problems and the ability to recommend solutions
Strong attention to detail required
Excellent written, verbal communication and comprehension skills
Proficiency with MS Excel and Word
Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor (or Creo or Solidworks)
Proficiency with FEA and CFD simulations
Familiarity with PTC Windchill (or other PLM/PDM system)
Familiarity with MathCAD, MatLab, VBA, or Python are considered assets
Practical knowledge of 3D printing
Practical knowledge of machine tools (mill, lathe, drill press, saws, etc.)
Flexibility to work varying schedules as needed to meet strict deadlines

Primary work environment is an office setting - sitting, standing, computer work
Secondary work environment is a workshop - light assembly, operating machinery, occasional lifting
Tertiary work environment is in the field - lifting, standing, driving, operating equipment, confined spaces, working at heights

Office: Standard office equipment; work usually performed in an office setting free from any disagreeable elements.
Travel as required throughout North America and Internationally for site surveys, monitoring field installations and performing quality inspections supporting field work, such as prototype and beta trials, field installations of monitoring equipment, etc. (approximately 10-25%)
