Overview / Job Summary
Aleris is a global leader in the manufacture and sale of aluminum rolled products, with approximately 14 facilities in three geographically aligned business units in North America, Europe and China. We serve a variety of end-use industries, including aerospace, automotive, defense, building and construction, transportation, packaging, and consumer goods.
Our Rolled Products North America Business Unit’s Quality team is seeking to add a talented Quality Engineer to its team at our Lewisport, Kentucky plant. The purpose of this role will be to focus on quality issues, root cause investigation, data analysis and preparing documentation associated with our customer quality requests.
Manage departmental Quality Systems including ISO standard components such as Management of Change, Corrective Actions, Document Control, Measurement Assurance, etc.
Provide support for the plant’s ISO 9001 Quality System program and assist in efforts to retain certification to the TS 16949 standard.
Maintain and ensure compliance with inter-departmental quality contracts and specifications.
Apply SPC methodology to critical inputs and outputs.
Provide feedback and coaching to Technical Advisors on operating processes and quality tool utilization.
Investigate the root cause of internal rejections, recommend corrective action and assist in the implementation of process changes including management of change, document control and measurement assurance.
Receive, evaluate and track corrective actions in response to major internal rejections and corrective actions triggered by major customer complaints or at the customer’s request.
Participate in the plant wide non-conforming product system as part of the ISO/TS management system, reporting necessary information and monitoring for trends. Attend the daily MRB meeting and review all internal rejections in detail.
Prepare and distribute reports, graphs and analysis of both Internal Rejections and Customer Rejections. Support the effort to provide information for the weekly KPI’s.
Provide support to process engineers and customers for assigned accounts.
Maintain compliance with all company and governmental regulations.
BS in Engineering/Science Discipline (or related) required, with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience.
Full knowledge and demonstrated use of Quality tools; i.e. 8D, PPS, DMAIC, PDCA, A3, 5S, Value Stream and Cause Mapping, Visual Management, etc.
Excellent written, oral and presentation skills.
Excellent proven organization and time management skills.
Experience with the aluminum rolling and finishing process is strongly preferred.
ASQ, Lean, and/or Six Sigma Certification are a plus.
