A day in the life:
Independently design and prepare the roadway portion of plans, special provisions and estimates, and be the engineer of record for projects, including large and complex interstates, primary highways, city streets and county roads.
Coordinate, review and check field location data and preliminary designs for compliance with design standards.
Prepare and analyze design alternatives for complex multi-modal Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) projects and determine which to select.
Provide design and review plans for non-STIP projects including emergency repair, bike and ped programs, maintenance, etc.
Work with CADD technicians to prepare 3D designs and construction handoff packages.
Perform site visits during project construction and provide support to construction administration staff.
Plan, assign, direct, train and review the work of other designers in the preparation of contract plans.
Work primarily in an office environment, using computers and software to develop CADD drawings and documents.
Field visits may involve hazards such as rough terrain, adverse weather, traffic, and heavy construction/equipment.
May require travel and occasional overtime and night or weekend work.

What we need:
A valid Professional Engineer’s (PE) license in Civil, Structural, or Transportation-related engineering.
NOTE: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain comity within six months of hire.
The goal of this recruitment is to fill this position at a professional engineer 1 level. However, we encourage you to apply if you meet the minimum qualifications for an associate in engineering 2 ($4,364 - $6,445 monthly) and the special qualifications below , as we may consider under-filling the position until the selected candidate acquires a professional engineer's license. Under-filling will not exceed 24 months.
Associate in Engineering 2 Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of and passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and one year of experience applying professional engineering theory, principles and methods.
Associate in Engineering 2 Under-Fill Special Qualifications:
To be eligible for the associate in engineering 2 under-fill option, a candidate must have passed the Professional Engineer’s exam and be able to meet the qualifying experience within 24 months of hire.

Experience designing large and complex interstates or expressways (multilane, new construction and major reconstruction).
Experience designing primary highways (major new construction and reconstruction), city streets and county roads.
Project delivery experience from project inception to plan, specification and estimate (PS&E).
Experience in the preparation of technical memorandums and design exceptions or variations.
