Project Engineer - Mechanical
Plant Engineering
Scope:
The Mechanical Project Engineer reports to the Plant Engineering Manager with the responsibility for providing mechanical engineering design and project management at our client's manufacturing facility. The position includes project management/engineering for capital projects (from project requirements to specification and design to installation); major equipment modification for reliability improvement; equipment rebuilds; and limited technical support for the plant Maintenance Department.
Responsibilities:
Manage all phases of engineering projects from project request to project closure:
Lead project team in the development of a solution to a project request
Design solution & produce drawings based upon scope of work & interaction with end-user
Formulate scope/specifications for the purchase of capital and non-capital equipment and contract labor
Develop and utilize project risk management plan
Prepare appropriation requests for capital equipment purchases & major repairs
Track/forecast project schedule (Gantt charts) and costs
Accomplish project work with vendors & contractors through professional and effective use of established departmental and divisional purchasing procedures (bid inquiry, bid procedure, liaison, and contract specifications)
Develop Bills of Material & recommendations for spares for all project equipment
Provide training to end-users on changes to existing equipment and new installations
Recommendations to Maintenance on PM activities for new equipment
Insist on highest expectations of quality, safety, and housekeeping from contractors on jobs for which you are PPR
Support focused improvement efforts through improvements to maintenance practices and design changes to existing equipment
Support Operations in assigned plant areas by staying engaged in equipment reliability and knowledgeable of recurring malfunctions
Provide necessary updating to drawings created by modifications to equipment, errors, etc.
Assures compliance with Company & Plant policies, health and safety standards, environmental regulations, hazardous waste, & good housekeeping practices.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required
Minimum of 5 years engineering design and/or project management experience
Knowledge/experience of project management methodology such as PMBOK or similar
Experience in heavy industry preferred
Working experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, material handling systems, and/or thermal oil systems preferred
AutoCAD and Inventor proficiency
MS Office and SAP proficiency
The ability to effectively communicate with internal teams and customers, engineering consultants, external suppliers and vendors.
Design and analytical skills
Demonstrated problem solving ability - troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and countermeasure identification
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Sit or stand for reasonable periods of time.
Climb stairs and vertical ladders
Wear PPE (Respirators, steel toe shoes, safety glasses, hard hat)
Good hand/finger dexterity.
Grip/grasp various tools and/or office equipment and use safely and properly.
