General Summary and Purpose:
Mechanical Engineer III designs, develops, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery. Applies knowledge of engineering principals to design products such as mechanical devices, thermal devices, instruments, controls, robots, etc. Conducts product testing and creates models, prototypes, and reports to provide relevant data to management. Research designs and make recommendations based on function, appearance, safety, and cost. Mechanical Engineer III may be involved with fabrication, operation, application, installation, and/or repair of mechanical products. Creativity and latitude are required. Additionally, Mechanical Engineer III requires a bachelor’s degree of Mechanical Engineering. 5+ years of related experience required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Participate in the design and engineering of new products with a clear understanding
of customer needs and industry regulations.
Help to continually improve existing products in accordance with PDP and quality standards.
Perform engineering calculations to support design work.
Use a strong understanding of static, dynamic, and thermal properties of hardware to create informed designs and act as a subject matter expert within the organization.
Work with vendors and contractors.
Capturing and documenting detailed information related to PDP
Use a strong understanding of material science to research and test materials and their related methods.
Create CAD models and complex assemblies.
Generate working prototypes for beta testing and customer demonstration. Attention to detail must be used to generate high quality prototypes that will impress and secure high value customers.
Collaborate with Operations and Quality to improve processes in accordance with quality standards.
Build prototype parts, assemblies, jigs, tools. etc.
Complete templates particular to PDP documentation requirements.
Create detailed engineering drawings and other technical documents.
Develop specifications for new and existing products and methods
Job Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or commensurate experience
Understanding of product design, engineering, material science.
Proficiency in CAD modeling (5yrs min), including complex assemblies and FEA analysis. SolidWorks experience preferred.
Experience in working with PDM, Solidworks PDM Standard/Enterprise preferred.
Working experience with MS Word/Excel/Outlook, Adobe Acrobat.
Ability to fabricate and test prototypes using machinery and shop equipment.
Understanding of basic production/manufacturing processes.
Creative conceptualizer with ability to effectively envision and communicate concepts.
Hands-on experience using physical model making and prototyping as a problem-solving tool as well as experience and sensitivities for collaborating and working with prototyping specialists.
Strong analytical background including structural, thermal, and fluid flow analysis.
Ability to conduct risk assessments and FMEA.
Detail orientated with demonstrated knowledge of creating detailed design documentation including tolerance analysis.
Experience with variety of high and low volume manufacturing processes and effectively transitioning designs into production.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to thoughtfully articulate and present technical ideas in formal and informal settings.
Highly motivated self-starter, able to manage multiple priorities.
