MECHANICAL ENGINEER IV

Engineering Design Center

Downers Grove, IL

Zachry Group is currently accepting applications for Mechanical Engineer IV for our Downers Grove Design Center Office location.

The Mechanical Engineer IV is expected to autonomously execute projects and lead a mechanical engineering team for larger project work. Project sectors served include petrochemical, chemical, and refining.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide strong leadership to drive mechanical technical design and project coordination

Attend Client and Internal Team meetings

Manage Project Schedules and Budgets as well as provide weekly reports to communicate project status, issues, and needs

Prepare process equipment inquiry/RFQ packages

Specify vessels, pumps, exchangers, rotating equipment and other process equipment

Prepare equipment datasheets with full mechanical equipment and system specifications

Perform technical and economic evaluations, bid tabulations, and prepare recommendations

Prepare process equipment procurement requisition packages

Conduct and/or participate in pre-inspection / kickoff meetings with process equipment fabricators

Review vendor documents for compliance with project specifications and industry codes and standards

Prepare piping material specifications and piping calculations

Perform field equipment and piping inspections and evaluations as required

Prepare engineering man-hour estimates for new work

Participate in field site visits to gather information

Assist in interpretation of engineering drawings and specifications

Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor Degree in a mechanical, industrial, chemical or petroleum engineering discipline from an accredited engineering program
M inimum of 10 years of experience in the Petroleum Refining or Chemical Industry
Strong communication skills required to provide effective inter-discipline, client, vendor, and construction coordination on projects
Highly motivated with ability to work in an interactive and open team environment
Must be organized, self-directed, able to prioritize and multi-task, work in a team environment and take direction from others
Experience with heat exchangers, pumps, ASME pressure vessels, ASME piping code, and material selection
Experienced in the specification of fixed and rotating equipment
Knowledge and familiarity with API Standards and Recommended Practices applicable to the specification of refinery fixed and rotating equipment
Previous experience supervising mechanical engineering teams in plant design
Willingness to travel and work in office and field environments
Commitment to safety, quality, responsibility, high work standards, and initiatives
Strong attention to detail

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Licensed Professional Engineer
Field plant start-up and commissioning experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, use of arm/hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. May be required to lift, carry and move objects safely.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employee will work in multiple environments including an office, warehouse and in a trailer or building on construction sites. On construction sites, noise levels will be moderate to high. Job sites may contain the following: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Noise levels vary and may include bells, whistles, and alarms.
