ABB Power Grids is seeking a Senior Product Development Engineer for its Jefferson City, MO location. This role is responsible for encompasses the planning, research, design, development, testing, installation and co-ordination of related activities involving the development and implementation of electrical/electronic components and processes applied to the product. This role is also responsible for implementing design improvements in our distribution transformer products, aligned with Design to Value (DtV) methodology and cost reduction initiatives. Under limited direction, perform a variety of complex engineering assignments requiring in-depth knowledge of a specific engineering discipline plus an understanding of related disciplines to cost effectively achieve objectives. Assignments typically require the use of advanced and innovative techniques. Proactively seek and implement new technologies and electrical design methodologies to improve product performance, operations and increase customer satisfaction.
Support DtV manager to drive profitability for current product offerings by applying DtV methodology to identify and prioritize ideas in the design;
Research, design, analyze, and evaluate products, processes and components, requiring a high degree of technical expertise in the related field;
Design and develop complex models or simulations and apply advanced computer programs, analytical techniques or control strategies to effectively meet performance requirements and resolve problems;
Act as principal investigator of new design technologies and manufacturing techniques to optimize the product performance by improving quality, reducing raw material and/or increasing productivity. Perform cost feasibility studies to validate effectiveness of proposed new design technologies or manufacturing processes before implementation;
Prepare project plans to introduce new design technologies and/or manufacturing processes in the business operations, including but not limited to implementation of new design rules, preparation of technical instructions, definition of product validation criteria, coordination of special electrical tests and training of engineers on new products or processes;
Interact with marketing engineers/managers to develop solutions to meet customer specifications where there is a need to either improve competitiveness of the business or develop new design solutions to cover the market demand.
Develop detailed designs for manufacturing and suppliers to successful implement proposed solution in the factory and validate performance/cost as per business case;
Ensure proper change management is followed to make the projects successful;
Report project progress and capture business impact throughout the project execution.
Bachelor's degree in engineering and 5+ years of experience in Distribution Transformer design or manufacturing; OR
Master’s degree in engineering and 3+ years of experience in Distribution Transformer design or manufacturing
Master’s degree in electrical engineering and 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing industry with demonstrated accomplishments preferred
Electrical Engineering degree preferred
5+ years of experience in distribution transformer design preferred
