This position will report to the Director of IT Infrastructure and will be responsible for supporting converged environments across multiple US datacenters.
The Junior Virtualization Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, troubleshooting, monitoring, and reporting of the enterprise virtual infrastructures – as well as the network and cloud operations – of Churchill Downs Incorporated and its related properties, specifically TwinSpires, United Tote, and the company’s gaming and racing properties. They will also support the company’s production Data Centers and support the 24x7 nature of the business through a rotation-based on-call assignment. This position will be required to be customer facing and able to troubleshoot various issues with customers and vendors. Some travel is required.
Ensure the successful and continued operation of the company’s network and virtual infrastructure
Participate with change and incident bridges
Investigate Infrastructure issues and bring to resolution within stated SLA parameters
Provide Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to operations team and customers upon request
Provide technical input (both verbal and written) for Incident and Change Management
Participate in on-call rotation for incident management and escalation
Interact with customer base through a combination of ticket requests and telephone interactions
Works appropriate level tickets in the team queue, as directed by management
Works with vendors to resolve hardware and software issues
Gather and maintain data for capacity planning and performance analysis of infrastructure
Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair Infrastructure problems according to Service Level Agreements
Monitor, maintain, and provide regular reporting on the infrastructure operation on a regular basis
Plan and execute changes to the infrastructure within the confines of our established Change Control framework
Implementation of virtualization solutions, computer platforms and appliances that support virtualization, including all server hardware, hypervisors, networking and load balancing appliances
Stay up to date on emerging technologies and products, including attaining certifications and participation in industry events, as appropriate
Foster new ideas and methodologies to improve automation and service delivery
Use scripting to automate technical processes, particularly as related to integrating local virtualized infrastructure with external cloud
Infrastructure Equipment Inventory Management; datacenter ITAM
Serve regularly as a standing interface between the IT Infrastructure team and Cloud, Development, InfoSec, System Services, and other teams as directed
Participate in cross-team projects to include work in the hybrid cloud, external cloud, and internal/on-premises cloud arenas
Work with VLANs within the VI, and other TCP/IP network interfaces that touch the VI.
Gather and compile documentation and drawings as required.
Update and maintain infrastructure management application databases and CMDB tools.
Proactively address business process issues regarding Infrastructure through architecture design, development and implementation as well as business process re-engineering
Ensure that all organization activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations.
Develops, leads, and owns projects to improve performance, efficiency, experience, capacity, etc. of environments
Perform other duties as assigned
4 year degree in IT/IS or other closely related discipline; may consider experience and certifications for degree requirement.
Minimum 2 years of experience managing and configuring VMware vSphere, including compute platforms and storage networks.
Knowledge and experience of problems and solutions related to the interoperability of compute (blade hardware, vSphere hypervisor, Windows server OS, and Active Directory), SAN, route/switch network, and cloud connections.
Minimum 2 years of experience using network analysis, management and performance monitoring tools to plan for growth, diagnose problems and determine source.
Minimum 2 years of experience working comprehensive projects in complex VI environment.
Minimum 2 years of experience implementing VLAN technology in an enterprise environment.
2 years’ experience with Change Management/Change Control systems in an enterprise datacenter environment spanning multiple remote locations.
Position located in Louisville, KY with occasional reporting to various other sites in the Louisville, KY area.
Travel to remote sites, probably 8 to 9 weeks out of 52.
Ability to work an 24x7 on-call rotation.
Ability to work certain night/weekend shifts on an as-needed basis for major infrastructure changes.
Ability to work several marquee events such as the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks.
Ability to be licensed as an Employee by various racing and gaming jurisdictions in which we operate, as required.
Unrestricted Authorization to work in the United States.
Experience with VMWare Horizon VDI, Horizon View console, deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of connection/broker servers and security servers
Thorough understanding of the relationships between Active Directory structure/groups and Horizon VDI operation and control.
Experience with cloud technologies and API’s, particularly AWS.
CCNA or CCNP
VMWARE Certified Professional (VCP)
Strong scripting ability in diverse languages
ITIL Foundations Certified
Six Sigma Green Belt Certified
Three or more recent years of experience configuring, monitoring and managing Cisco UCS platform, Pure Storage, NetApp Storage, F5 Load Balancers, and Cisco WAN/LAN switching & routing products
Strong communications and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of Windows and Linux-based platforms desirable
