Capital Projects Engineer
Pine Hill Mill
The Engineer will manage and support the implementation of capital projects throughout the mill while supporting the mill safety, reliability, and improvement efforts. The position requires strong project management and technical skills to coordinate different disciplines within Operations, Maintenance, consulting engineers, and vendors. Primarily, the prospective candidate should have the ability to manage several projects that span multiple engineering disciplines, and will require working closely with Business Unit Managers, Area Managers, Engineers, Maintenance, and Operations personnel as well as Maintenance and Operations Technicians. The position level for the Capital Projects Engineer is commensurate with experience and qualifications, and the Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager at the mill.
Coordination of all phases of capital project from business justification to start-up including: business case development, evaluation and selection of technical alternatives, development of detailed cost estimates and execution plans, design engineering, construction management, commissioning, and start up.
Independently manage multiple projects of various complexity and size, with responsibility for managing budget, schedule, and technical performance. Project types include maintenance re-life and equipment replacement, cost reduction, regulatory, and strategic.
Apply technical know-how and analysis to understand complex designs, and interact with the Technology group to identify the minimum effective design solution for various operating problems and for installation of new / modified equipment.
Ensure engagement and alignment from required project stakeholders and team members for all projects, including outside resources such as engineering partners, vendors, and contractors.
Overall management of the procurement process including bid analysis (commercial and technical). Work with Global Sourcing and Purchasing to coordinate negotiation and awarding of work associated with the procurement of equipment and services, as well as expediting, factory acceptance activities, and resolving contract issues.
Managing major projects that are engineered by contracted engineering resources, including determining the appropriate engineering deliverables (design and documentation) for assigned projects and management of engineering contractor processes, procedures, and workflow.
Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or a related field is preferred. Candidates with 10 plus years of construction industry experience in a supervisory role in lieu of Bachelor’s degree shall be considered.
Requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in a variety of technical or operational assignments, including all aspects of process development and execution in a manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of Project Delivery Process / Front End Loading
Good communication and interpersonal skills are critical, and the ability to communicate to groups and individuals at all levels is essential.
Self-directed and driven, requiring minimum supervision.
Flexibility to lead projects outside core area of competence.
Working knowledge of SAP, Microsoft Project, and Project Management software a plus.
