Provide expert reservoir and design engineering services to our natural gas utility underground storage operations in multiple states. Support long-term capital planning for underground storage assets. Conduct analyses to maintain reliability and performance. Work in partnership with state operations to ensure safe, reliable service to customers. Perform highly complex system analyses and oversees implementation of actions and measures. Independently leads project teams. Responsible for the design and technical oversight of 7 storage fields while maintaining compliance with pipeline safety regulations, industry standards and general engineering practices. Work with cross functional departments to develop and promote commercial opportunities for the assets. Maintain and produce records to verify inventory verification reports comparing gas-in-place to book volumes. Develop growth plans and projects to fully optimize storage assets.

SALARY RANGE: $98,000 - $137,000 (Base salary is determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Lead the design, construction, and standardization of subsurface and aboveground facilities vital to the storage assets.
Model, analyze, estimate, and recommend projects for the continued safe operation and reliability of the assets.
Design, utilize, and maintain analytical models for the commercial optimization of facilities and project development.
Conduct reservoir and well analyses of storage assets to predict, monitor, and manage storage field performance.
Monitor storage field performance to develop forecast for reservoir injection and deliverability.
Participate as a technical expert in discussions, analyses, and development of commercial opportunities with cross functional departments.
Provide engineering support in the development of long-term capital planning.
Monitor new technological and regulatory developments that may affect Black Hills Energy.
Provide technical leadership to teams or committees dealing with industry-wide issues or strategies.
Actively represent BHE’s interests on external industry teams and committees.
Identify, lead, and provide innovative solutions to process improvement initiatives.
Work with internal customers to ensure project adherence to applicable codes and regulations.
Influence department/project work. Facilitate and inspire teamwork.

Supports the hiring and managing of department interns
Participates in community relations based activities
Participate in state and federal audits
Travel as necessary to support activities for Natural Gas Utility Operations.

12 or more years of gas industry experience; with proven knowledge of natural gas operations.
7 years of experience as a practicing reservoir engineer.
Mastery of reservoir engineering analysis.
Proven technical expertise in a related discipline.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution required
Degree in geotechnical field (Petroleum, Geological) preferred.
Demonstrated technical and operational expertise.
Proficient knowledge of support functions including but not limited to Finance, Accounting, IT, HR and Supply Chain.
Extensive knowledge of network design, standards, and system operations.
Understand and apply advanced concepts of related engineering disciplines
Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
Effective presentation, facilitation and training skills.
Strong writing and editing skills.
Proficient in word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs.
Ability to lead and participate with cross-functional teams.
Ability to manage projects of varying scale simultaneously.

Self-starter, energetic, and proactive.
Professional Engineer license required
