The Joint Venture including VINCI (33%), Dragados USA (42%), Flatiron Constructors (25%) has been awarded with a $3.3 design-build contract for the I-64 Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel Expansion Project (HRBT) in Virginia, which is the largest construction contract awarded in the history of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

Position Purpose : Establish the efficient and safe methodology to be deployed in constructing the temporary and permanent works. It includes the calculations, technical notes and specifications to support the chosen methods, assessments of risks as per Safety in Design procedure.

Principle Accountability and Responsibility:
Manage the Methods Engineering through the production of site layouts, fence drawings, site installations, logistic strategy, cranes loading schedule, traffic management drawings in safe & healthy conditions
Manage the Methods Structural Design of Temporary structures (Metallic Structural Design, Reinforced Concrete Design) through the production of concrete outline drawings for non-structural concrete. This includes the blinding and the masse concrete drawings
Define the drainage systems in coordination with Geotechnical Engineer
Produce the Support of Excavation drawings in coordination with the Geotechnical Engineer (retaining walls, king posts, nailed walls…). Determine the correct and efficient sequence of the works including the excavation sequence
Define the formwork and falsework systems, and their cycle, to be used in constructing the permanent works
Liaise with the logistic/plant department to identify what are the tools and materials that are available
Define the construction joints locations, orientations of the starter bars, the locations of the couplers or bars to be unbent on site. This task should be realized by coordination with the Structural Designer and Water proofing Designer
Give to the construction team the principles of the works method statements and review the Work Method Statement when requested
Propose innovative methods of construction including off-site fabrication and pre-casting techniques when feasible
Follow the well implementation of the method document by making regular site visits and by liaising with the Temporary Work Coordinator
Prepare / settle on the Field Method Modification Requests
Prepare the information to be included in the experience shared report for the project.
Take part in site/design/interface meetings as required
Make Quality and Safety integrated in all the process of design

Management/Coordination:
Recruit and manage the Methods Engineers and Draftsmen, as required, to comply with the requirements of the contract and to deliver on time and quality
Preparing the Staff Planning for the Department and be compliant to it throughout the Project
Ensure that the Staff are well trained and use the proper tools and software
Select and follow any Sub / consultant / peer reviewer for Temporary Work, and as soon as Sign and seal is required

Education and Experience:
Required:
Minimum of a Bachelor s degree in Civil Engineering. Master s degree favoured. Courses include AutoCAD, Revit, and Bentley (Civil 2D & 3D)
Minimum of 15 years experience as Senior Methods Manager in the construction industry, preferably on large infrastructure projects
Expertise on Temporary Works Design and Methods Management

Strongly Encouraged:
Previous experience in the US is a plus
