The Melt/Technical Services Internship will begin in May 2020 and end in August 2020. This internship is designed for a student studying for a career as a Materials Science, Metallurgy, or Manufacturing Technology Professional. The Melt/Technical Services Intern will assist the Melt and Technical Services Departments with a variety of projects including:
Perform the duties of a process engineer, doing experiments that will provide data to better understand how the multiple variables in the process affect the outcome, analyzing information, testing and comparing materials in different departments.
Identify and quantify the variables that change the cooling curve profile
Attempt to model using solidification software
Field trials and implementation of least cost charge materials that are supplied to Neenah Foundry to reduce melt cost without sacrificing quality of final product.
Work on training matrix and documents for supervisors
Expected Areas of Competence (KSAs)
Developing knowledge of Materials Science, Metallurgical, or Manufacturing Technology concepts including:
Understanding of Phase diagrams
Understanding of Metallography
Understanding in solidification of metals
Microsoft Computer Skills
Education and Experience Requirements
Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Manufacturing Technology, or related field
