We have an immediate opportunity for an Associate Thin Film Engineer who will lead improvement efforts, develop and implement projects to improve yields and efficiencies in the manufacturing process. He/she will use their creativity and a methodical scientific approach to solve technical challenges. The candidate will be proficient in substrate cleaning and physical vapor deposition techniques

Must have an in-depth understanding of all Coating Tech I, II and II responsibilities. This includes intimate knowledge of the wash room and the coating lab as well as the chambers, equipment, processes and procedures
Prepare coating equipment for deposition including but not limited to chemical preparation, media blasting, hardware changes, job selection
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot high-vacuum thin film deposition equipment. Identify, troubleshoot, and correct process related issues, Perform preventative maintenance tasks
Evaluate coated optical components for adherence to spectral, cosmetic, and physical specifications
Assisting in new product development and maximizing manufacturing capabilities
Work with engineering to develop tooling and other fixturing that is needed for ultrasonic cleaning and thin film deposition
Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of coating manufacturing processes for yield, productivity and cycle time
Utilize SPC and data analysis to improve production processes including enhancements in yield, lowering costs and increasing manufacturing uptime
Troubleshooting problems that occur during the manufacturing process of the optical coatings related to uniformity, color, or spectral performance
Analyze defects and failures to determine root cause and implement corrective actions
Documenting standard operating procedures, training guidelines, and “what if” scenarios
Manage defect issues, implement root cause solutions to those issues, and continuously promote and implementing process improvement, quality and cost performance
Establish operating parameters for new processes, conduct optimization experiments, and establish best practices and procedures
Utilize lean and/or continuous improvement methodologies to facilitate process improvements and teach others
Develop, design and optimize optical thin film deposition processes to meet requirements and specifications for resistance, ion assist and electron beam coating processes
Responsible for the development and implementation of optical metrology testing, spectrophotometry, interferometry, photometry, absorption and laser damage testing which meet or exceed industry standards
Knowledge, Abilities, & Skills You Need:
Knowledge of statistical methods and analysis
Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing techniques
Ability to conduct design and process failure modes and effects analysis
Experience with complex projects; ability to analyze problems; development of corrective actions
Ability to clearly present and communicate ideas, concepts, and plans across multiple levels
Ability to function autonomously with little direction/works well independently of others
Fundamental understanding of thin film optical coatings and applied material science techniques used in a production or research environment. Experience with Ion Assist and Electron beam systems and/ or resistance optical thin film technologies
Experience with thin film software and a good understanding of optical thin film design
Knowledge of vacuum systems with experience using diffusion and/or cryo pumps
Familiarity with thin film optical materials and thin film characterization techniques
Familiarity with thin film design and optical filter manufacturing, applications and product development
Experience with quality management systems
Ability to work with microscope and small parts
Excellent troubleshooting skills in addition to organizational skills
Regularly required to sit and talk or hear. Frequently required to walk
Occasional standing, reaching, climbing or balancing and stooping, kneeling, or crouching required
Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
