It takes powerful technology to connect our brands and partners with an audience of 1 billion. Nearly half of Verizon Media employees are building the code and platforms that help us achieve that. Whether you’re looking to write mobile app code, engineer the servers behind our massive ad tech stacks, or develop algorithms to help us process 4 trillion data points a day, what you do here will have a huge impact on our business—and the world. Want in? As Verizon’s media unit, our brands like Yahoo, TechCrunch and HuffPost help people stay informed and entertained, communicate and transact, while creating new ways for advertisers and partners to connect. With technologies like XR, AI, machine-learning, and 5G, we’re transforming media for tomorrow, too. We're creators and coders, dreamers and doers creating what's next in content, advertising and technology.
About Big Data Platforms
The Big Data Platforms team powers the most demanding Big Data applications in the industry on some of the largest Hadoop clusters ever built. Yahoo pioneered this level of scale with Hadoop, and Verizon Media continues to be a leader in this space. Our team is made up of several PMCs (Program Management Committee members) and Committers in key Apache open source projects like Hadoop, Storm, and Tez, just to name a few. Our leadership position keeps Verizon Media at the forefront of these projects, both directionally and technically. Our team structure encourages trust, learning from one another, having fun, and attracting people who are passionate about what they do. If you want to work with Hadoop, Storm, or Spark and get a deep understanding of cloud computing, we're the team for you.
This position will be responsible for features, bug fixes, and routine maintenance and operations for the Doppler tool. These tasks will include both front-end and back-end changes to the Doppler codebase, as well as customer support. This developer will be part of the team responsible for the expansion of Doppler’s capabilities and continued stability. Example tasks include the creation of new automation, expansion of Doppler’s reporting systems, and introduction of new request flows within the Doppler tool.
The impact of Doppler and its team on customers of our grid infrastructure is hard to overstate. This group is generally the first line of support for all grid customers, and Doppler is the portal for access and resources for grid users. The demand for new features in Doppler is constant, and expansion of the team will help reduce turn-around time and help us maintain excellent customer response times.
While this role will start as a junior developer, I would like to see the person who fills this role grow into a senior developer for the Doppler team or another part of the Platforms organization. Doppler is already a pivotal piece of our grid platform infrastructure, and working on that team allows for exposure to many different areas of both Verizon Media and Verizon. Members of the Doppler team are directly responsible for improving our grid infrastructure usability, having significant impact. All members of the team contribute to that impact.
HTML & CSS, preferably previous exposure to Bootstrap
Experience with unit-testing frameworks, such as Mocha or Jasmine
A customer-first commitment
Excellent verbal and written communication
