SMT Process Engineer

This job is defined as a working manufacturing engineer with manufacturing engineering management responsibility. Key objectives include implementation, support and direction for reengineering and optimization of manufacturing process, equipment technology, and lean manufacturing process. The position will support day-to-day operations, effectiveness and influence the next generation of designs.
Responsible for improvement of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) related processes Identify and Improve Product Quality, Process Capability and product reliability
Monitor the SMT process and necessary controls working with production, quality assurance, supervision and others.
Use Statistical Process Control and provide direct, hands on support of SMT manufacturing processes.
Review design documentation, materials and designs for manufacturability
Provide pre and post manufacturing reviews and finalize process issues as required.
This position is expected to lead the SMT department to a world-class level.
Drive to reach zero defects by continually improving processes
Stencil Design for complex circuit boards
Programming in Pick and Place, AOI and SPI
Recruit, supervise, and evaluate department staff
Schedule department to ensure proper coverage
Identify and schedule training for department
Communicate (via meetings, etc.) with department to keep them abreast of changes, updates, etc.
Coordinate with HR with such matters as employee relations, hiring and time and attendance
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Must have solid process engineering experience in the SMT printed circuit board assembly industry in a high-reliability environment; contract manufacturing experience a plus.
Experience should include BGA, Micro-BGA, fine pitch, BGA rework, thermal profiling, X ray, screen printing, pick and place programming and reflow profiling.
Experience with RoHS and statistical methods required.
Must have excellent troubleshooting skills and possess good analytical, verbal and written communication skills and be proficient on Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Bachelors in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred.
Strong analytical and problem solving ability
Must have command of the English language in terms of reading, writing and speaking. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must have college level math and reasoning skills, which include the ability to think logically.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Work environment includes machines and tools with sharp moving parts and hot surfaces; all employees should take precaution while working with them. Employees may be exposed to moderate noise levels and processes that utilize solder, potting material, conformal coating and cleaning agents which have various odors. Employees must wear safety glasses and ESD smocks at all times and ESD straps while working with certain types of products.
