Cooper Tire's Global Technical Center is seeking an expert in the development and application of the finite element method to static and dynamic systems. You will work with a cross-functional, cross-continental group of engineers who are creating and refining links between tire design and vehicle performance.
Your responsibilities will include learning and mastering many aspects of tire mechanics, developing new FE methods inside and outside of commercial FE codes, and applying these methods to practical problems. You will be expected to challenge our existing methods and practices . We always know that, whatever we’re doing, there’s always a better way to do it. It is our goal to obsolete our own creations with new creations, and ourselves with ourselves… we constantly learn new things, reinvent ourselves, and improve on everything we do.

Proven knowledge of theory and practice of the finite element (FE) method applied to problems involving nonlinear solids, undergoing high strains, with contact and friction
Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Engineering Physics, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Biomechanics or equivalent experience
Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
Expertise in at least one of the following: Abaqus, Ansys, Nastran, LS Dyna, Nike 3D, Code Aster, Calculix
Knowledge of mechanics of laminated composite materials
"Classical" methods of analysis of continuous and lumped dynamic systems
Knowledge of statistics equivalent to a first undergraduate course
Scientific programming in at least two of the following: Python, Matlab, Fortran, C++, Julia
Right to work in the U.S.
Zero to 5 years’ experience since earning advanced degree
Knowledge of High Performance Computing including Linux cluster management ( SLURM, scripting and other tools)
Expertise in Machine Learning
Working knowledge of fluid dynamics and some experience with CFD
Experience using LINUX/UNIX
Experience with tires
Experience with vehicle dynamics
