R&D Engineer

The R&D Engineer will be responsible for coordination and completion of projects leading to new product development, new chemical processes/methods to improve company market share or production efficiencies. The R&D chemist should be self-motivated and able to work independently and within a team. The chemist should be familiar with modern chemistry laboratory equipment, in addition to possessing mathematical ability and good written and verbal communication skills.

  • KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

2.1 Four-year technical degree in chemistry or chemical engineering

2.2 Coursework in physics, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, and lab instrumentation is desired. Background in colloid chemistry is a plus.

2.3 Familiarity with analytical chemistry instrumentation.

2.4 Basic knowledge of statistics.

2.5 Working knowledge of Design of Experiments.

  • EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

4.1 Entry level job but some research experience is preferred but not required.

4.2 Willingness to learn the fundamentals of chemical precipitation of metallic particles and mechanical flaking of metallic particles.

  • TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

5.1 Ability to design and execute lab and pilot scale experiments.

5.2 Above average observation and assessment skills.

5.3 Familiarity with quality manufacturing systems and their impact on customers.

5.4 Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

5.5 Willingness to learn statistical software (i.e. Minitab) for the use of design of experiments and the analysis of data.

  • TYPICAL DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO

6.1 Create a safe lab working environment.

6.2 Design and conduct lab and pilot scale experiments.

6.3 Analyze and characterize experimental products.

6.4 Report data and interpret results.

6.5 Write technical summaries and reports including cost basis.

6.6 Select and schedule routine tests.

6.7 Select, set-up and adjust experimental materials and equipment.

6.8 Support all environmental, health and safety-related activities and carry out assigned duties contributing to the overall compliance with Federal, State and local environmental, health and safety regulation.

6.9 Other related activities as directed by supervisor.

6.10 Complete SAP transactions

6.11 Construct Capital Expense Applications

6.12 Travel between sites (Attleboro & Port Huron)

6.13 Work directly with Customers

6.14 Travel to customers in support of Sales

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $60,000.00 to $75,000.00 /year
