Job Title: Polymer Engineer/Scientist
Reports To: Engineering Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt / Full Time

As a Materials Engineer, you will be responsible for creating, monitoring and controlling material related projects for manufacturing capability and improvement. Additionally this individual will support all R&D projects by providing technical expertise in materials.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Monitor and test the performance of current materials
Research new/better materials that can be used for existing products
Spec out and/or design materials to support the development of new products
Perform cost-benefit analysis of alternate materials
Work with different departments to consult on upcoming projects
Enhance existing materials with additives to improve bonding and/or overall durability
Evaluate surface modifications to enhance the bonding of various materials
Work as part of a team to source and qualify new/alternate raw material suppliers
Maintain and improve quality, processing efficiency, and production cost of existing compounds and materials
Investigate manufacturing issues, creating and implementing effective countermeasures

Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Minimum of a 4 year bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s Degree or PhD is a plus.
Background in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science/Engineering is preferred
5 years of experience in a relevant field using various thermoplastics and/or silicones
Strong knowledge in adhesives and bonding compounds
Knowledge of injection molding is a plus
Knowledge of biocompatible materials
Experience qualifying and validating raw materials
Material characterization techniques and data interpretation
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and/or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and/or procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, vendors, non-engineers and/or the general public.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
