The Network Engineer provides functional analysis and administration related to the planning, design, installation, implementation, maintenance, support and optimization of all aspects of the network infrastructure. The Network Engineer is responsible for the stable operation of the computer network, including servers, desktop and office systems, communications hardware and software, all other network hardware and software. This position analyzes and resolves end user hardware and software computer problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provides end user training where required. The Network Engineer actively anticipates and mitigates potential attacks through network or other connections to ensure the security of the system and transmission of data.
Provides functional analysis and administration related to the planning, design, installation, and implementation of all aspects of the network infrastructure.
Manages all telephone systems and servers, including e-mail, file, print, and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software.
Oversees installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
Maintains all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, printers, and power supplies.
Analyzes, recommends, schedules, and performs network improvements, upgrades, and repairs. Administers all equipment, hardware and software upgrades and routine maintenance and maintains proper documentation of such.
Participates and mitigates potential attacks through network or other connections to ensure the security of the system and the transmission of data. Manages and monitors security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems.
Performs system backups and recovery of all systems; maintains accurate records of all backup activities, according to current Standard Operating Procedures.
Performs server and security audits, as required. Communicates with external vendors and/or independent contractors regarding security of systems and makes necessary corrections, in conjunction with the Chief Information Officer.
Monitors and tests network performance and provides network performance statistics and reports to management.

Procures and configures all computer equipment, network infrastructure components, and other peripheral Interacts and negotiates with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
Develops, implements and maintains policies, procedures and associated training plans for network resource administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery.
Ensures proper functionality of Hope’s video conferencing (VTC)/Zoom system. Assists Hope staff with troubleshooting issues related to these systems, as necessary.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field required. Experience in lieu of education may be accepted on a two for one basis in appropriate fields.
Three years of experience working in IT required; experience must include working with Windows Server and network administration, as well as customer support experience in a computer network environment.
CompTIA Network+ and Cisco Certified Network Associate certification preferred. MCITP server administrator preferred.
Possesses a valid Alaska Driver’s license and has at least one year of driving experience (may include permit time).
Able to safely operate Agency vehicles when needed. Possesses reliable transportation and vehicle insurance when transporting support recipients or conducting Agency business.
Meets State and Agency requirements for passing a criminal background check upon hire and as required thereafter.
Lifts 35 pounds from a squat and kneel position on the floor.
Works at desk/computer workstation for a minimum of six hours per day.
Completes all required State, Agency, Department and position specific training as assigned.
Obtains a tuberculin clearance at time of employment and annually thereafter.
