Job Title:
Tooling & Fixture Design Engineer

Reports to:
Production Manager of Gunderson Rail. Will support the Production Manager of Gunderson Marine as needed.

Job Summary:
Engineer with a good understanding of general and detailed aspects of engineering design and their practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered as related to tooling and fixtures that are used to assemble and handle large industrial components.

This position is located at our Gunderson manufacturing facility in Portland, OR.

Job Duties:
This position assumes the responsibility of completing the development and execution of mechanical engineering for projects assigned
Responsible for preparing calculations, design of the project, preparing all design drawings, and other documentation
A wide degree of creativity and self-direction is expected.
Performs all 3D design work in Autodesk Inventor and other related tools
Performs FEA analysis work in ANSYS
Provide detail mechanical design of complex mechanical system
Completes all drawings and other related project documentation
Responsible for the content and accuracy of the final design documents
Support the Production Manager in maintaining budget, schedule and adherence to the agreed to scope of work
Perform vendor data review of equipment and components
Completes the design and documentation of components or portions of systems, and modifies existing designs to develop or improve them as assigned
Gathers information, makes studies, performs calculations, and prepares layouts and sketches to present design proposal
Maintain engineering record as well as provide mechanical engineering assistance as required
Assist shop personnel as needed for equipment installation and fabrication

Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum of 5 years of work experience in mechanical design
2+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience in heavy industrial manufacturing is highly preferred
Experience designing structural metal parts for welding, machining, or drilling processes highly preferred
Proficiency in parametric modeling software (e.g. Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks)
Experience performing FEA analysis of fixtures and tooling with ANSYS preferred
Self-motivation and ability to work independently to complete projects Demonstrated interpersonal skills including flexibility and ability to work in a team environment
Strong problem solving skills
Proven analytical abilities
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
Must be able to walk, climb and gather information in a heavy industrial environment
Must be able to travel outside the US
