The Machinist produces completed assemblies within shop by processing parts across all machines to meet specifications and tolerances designated by blueprints. The Machinist will operate all machines within the department including manual turret lathes, vertical/horizontal milling machines, vertical/horizontal band saws, radial drills, push/pull broach machines and hydraulic presses. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Establishes credibility through high quality operation of all machines and processes in the machine shop area.
Interprets and utilizes complex blueprints or routings to determine specifications such as dimensions and tolerances, sequence of operations, tooling instructions on holding devices, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cuts, and cutting tools.
Measures, marks and scribes’ dimensions and reference point on material or work-piece as guides for subsequent machining.
Lifts workpiece manually or with hoist or overhead crane, and positions and secures work-piece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers or fixture.
Observes cutting action of machine to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
Builds and uses special fixtures for machining and welding.
Uses hand tools (manual, electric, air) to deburr parts.
Verifies conformance of machined work-piece to specifications.
Computes unspecified dimensions and machine settings.
Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers or others to resolve machining problems.
Performs routine maintenance on all machines in shop area.
Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
Other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED.
2-3 years related experience and/or training.
Ability to read and comprehend instructions and short correspondence.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to read and comprehend a tape measure.
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Maintain reliability and punctuality.
Regularly stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
Frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Occasionally sit and climb or balance.
Lift/Move up to 50lbs.
