Centuria Corporation is seeking a Part-time Engineer/Scientist to support the Remote Sensing/GIS Center of Expertise (RS/GIS CX) at the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory located in Hanover, New Hampshire. The position provides support to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Wetlands Regulatory Assistance Program. This position is Part-Time/ 20 hours per week.
The Engineer/Scientist conducts civil and/or military research in their area of expertise. Requisite expertise will be further described in individual Task Orders. Technical requirements exist for Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems or Interdisciplinary Engineering and in the fields of Biology, Botany, Chemistry Geology, Geochemistry, Ecology, Physics, Geophysics, Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science. The work can include, but is not limited to, the following technical areas: Signature Physics, Terrain Properties and Processes, Biogeochemical Processes in Earth Materials, Environmental Fate and Transport Geochemistry, Maneuver Support and Sustainment, Cold Regions Infrastructure, Water Resources and Geospatial Applications, Hydrology and Hydraulics, Arctic Engineering, and sensor phenomenology. The work is conducted in a variety of settings including the office, laboratory, local test areas, and remote field sites.

The selected candidate must:
Be proficient in the utilization of the HiSeq and MiSeq under quality control system for pathogen DNA characterization.
Be able to design and conduct technical support as an alpha tester in the evaluation of the MinIon Nanopore – a sequencing device that fits in the palm of your hand.
Perform Gram and spore staining of anthrax simulants (BTK and BG) and observed the effects of irradiation on cell walls.
Perform RNA Sequencing procedure on brain samples from rats exposed to the chemical agent VX to identify biomarkers for nerve agent exposure as part of the ECBC Systems Biology Program for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency.
BS or MS is Biology or other related field
Candidate shall support RS/GIS CX personnel with various technical tasks pertaining to development of scientifically-based standards and methods for assessing stream condition and function. Such tasks may include, but are not limited to, assisting in field testing of assessment methodologies, statistical analysis comparing assessment methods, and creation of various technical materials related to development and publication of technical guidance.
The candidate should have working knowledge of stream assessment methods and proficiency with HEC-RAS and Python.
This task involves occasional travel for new data collection in different regions of the country to compare assessment methods in a variety of stream channel types
Candidate shall support RS/GIS CX personnel with analysis and writing of a technical guide for identifying stream features at the upper extent of channels.
This task will involve analyzing and summarizing previously collected field data and including further evaluate of sites remotely.
This task will require knowledge of channel head identification, remote analysis of channel heads, writing skills, and proficiency with ArcGIS and graphics software for analysis and development of visual aids for the field guide.
