As part of the Engineering Department, the Lead Materials and Processes (M&P) Engineer will review material requirements for engineering designs and direct material testing and evaluation on engineering projects. Additionally, this position is responsible for conducting failure analyses and evaluating new materials and processes. The Lead M&P Engineer is responsible for reviewing and writing material specifications and process specifications, and will also write reports documenting activities and analyses. This position requires excellent technical, process, communication, organizational and people skills as well as the ability to continuously prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with a high level of focus on quality, accuracy and confidentiality in all work products.
Provide Materials & Processes (M&P) technical support
Conduct failure analyses and evaluate new materials and processes
Review and write material specifications and process specifications
Write reports documenting activities and analyses
Test Analysis and other test related tasks including test set-up and coordination
Research and review material supplier datasheets and specifications
What You Bring to the Team (Requirements):
3+ years of experience in materials and processes, material testing, failure analysis and specifying materials.
BS or MS in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering
FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) M&P Specifications (preferred) or the ability to obtain a DER delegation in 1-2 years.
Experience in Excel/VBA
Materials testing experience including load frame, DMA, DSC and FTIR as well as Composite Manufacturing knowledge (preferably with Oven Cured Composite Parts)
Experience in developing Material Allowables
Coursework in organic chemistry and composite manufacturing
Hands on experience with composite processing and an understanding of the industry standards/ best practices for out of autoclave manufacturing methods
Familiar with composite FAA structural certification
Experience with ASTM standards for testing of composites, ability to develop detailed instructions related to implementing new test methods.
Computer aided design using solid works modeling software
Ability to follow prescribed processes, specifications, and guidelines
Work well independently and in a team with positive attitude & professional presence
Ability to perform in unique and changing environment; respond effectively to changes and other deadlines; readily accept new ideas and approaches
Able to work with minimal supervision on highly technical projects
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written (author technical memos)
