The Systems Engineer supports enterprise class, mission-critical systems and platforms. Responsibilities include capacity monitoring and planning, system troubleshooting, hardware installations and repair, software and operating system installs/upgrades, security design/strategy, system architecture design, and automation/scripting of system tasks. The Systems Engineer also ensures efficient and reliable system operation, provides escalation support to IS application teams, monitors emerging technology developments, and identifies opportunities and issues for improvement. Rotating on-call coverage may be required.
Please note: This role may be performed primarily through a remote work arrangement, with the expectation that team members share on-call responsibility. Systems Engineers must be available to respond to business priorities and travel to Burlington, Vermont within an hour should the need arise. Because timely on-site presence will be required on occasion, relocation assistance and initial temporary housing will be available.
Education:
Bachelor's degree or formal technical training or equivalent experience.
Experience:
3-5 or more years’ experience.
Responsibilities:
- Daily reactive support for hospital’s enterprise-class compute, virtualization, and storage systems. Perform triage, troubleshooting, and escalation if needed
- Develop and maintain procedures and policies around all aspects of server support and implementation, including evaluation of existing practices, documentation, and training
- Perform proactive maintenance
- Provide escalation support to application support teams managing server-based applications
- Responsible for installation, configuration and updates of systems-related software, firmware, operating systems patches and upgrades
- Provide support for hospital initiatives & programs
Essential Skills:
- Knowledge of Linux (RHEL 7/8) and Windows systems administration
- Knowledge of server concepts & architectures
- Excellent verbal communication
- Builds positive working relationships and works collaboratively with other team members
