Job Summary :
The person hired for the position of Environmental Process Engineer will provide process and environmental engineering expertise to support the 3M Cottage Grove Wastewater Treatment facility. This position will initiate, identify, recommend, and oversee wastewater treatment programs to improve: 1) cost and reliability, and (2) process safety and health/environmental impact.
This position will report to the Environmental Operations Manager for the Cottage Grove Incinerator and Wastewater Treatment facilities, and work directly with experienced Engineers, Operations, and Management.
This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Process engineering oversight of wastewater and water treatment operations, including:
Monitor process data trends and key process indicators
Coordinate department MOC meetings
Maintain and update process control procedures
Attend Tier 1 meetings
Coordinate monthly Tier 3 meetings with management
Monitor monthly department spend
Initiate and support engineering projects
Assist division engineer with water resource management
Carrying out compliance related activities such as:
NPDES permit compliance monitoring and agency communications
Monthly reporting to regulatory treatment agency
Manage in house laboratory and data quality
Coordination with 3M Environmental Operations to ensure continued compliance in an evolving regulatory environment
Lead an investigation team and ensuring proper response, reporting, and investigation of incidents
Develop and present training packages
Participate in and/or lead health and safety audits or assessments
Responsible for initiating and conducting broadly defined technical tasks and programs for wastewater process improvement and permit and regulatory compliance oversight.
Actively participates in and may lead project planning efforts. Suggests changes or future direction as needed. Participates in implementing changes and future direction.
Involved with the implementation of environmental stewardship, sustainability, and continuous improvement programs
Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Minimum of three (3) years of combined experience in Environmental Engineering and/or Environmental Science
Expertise in wastewater and water treatment process
Expertise in NPDES permit compliance and State and Federal water quality regulations
Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related discipline from an accredited university
Class A or B wastewater operator license
Previous environmental experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting is highly desirable
Experience with Minnesota and Federal regulations as well as 3M standards
Experience in environmental compliance reporting
Experience in environmental permitting or project management
Experience with spreadsheet and/or database application programs (such as Microsoft Excel and/or Access and SharePoint)
Strong communication skills, and ability to work effectively in teams
Location: Cottage Grove, MN
Travel: May include up to 10%
Relocation: Is authorized
