Position Summary:
The Plant Engineer will support the operation of the Canal plant with an emphasis on safety and environmental compliance, world class product quality and continuous process improvement. This position is located within the Technical group in support to the Plant Utilities and production units for Technical, Engineering, Maintenance, Safety and Environmental aspects. Under minimal supervision, this position is responsible for providing technical support to the day to day operation of the plant as well as implementing projects to enhance safety, environmental performance, reliability, product quality and productivity. This position interfaces with hourly and salary staff at all levels and various departments within the plant.
Utilities include: Incinerator, Wet scrubbing of NOx & SOx, Water, Reverse Osmosis, Wastewater, High Pressure Air, Boiler, Oil Tank Farm and DCS Systems (Honeywell Experion, HPM and Delta V).
Production Units include 6 Carbon Black units.
Job Responsibilities:
Safety: Ensure the safety compliance of the plant utilities and operating units within the plant. Exhibit safe behaviors within the plant and promote the behavioral safety systems with others. Ensure compliance with Process Safety Management by updating operating procedures, assisting in training of unit operators and leading the Management of Change process.
Environmental: Ensure the environmental compliance of the plant utilities and operating units within the plant. Monitor and track plant emissions to ensure permit compliance. Ensure new installations meet environmental requirements through the Management of Change process. Investigate processes and procedures which can reduce the environmental footprint of the plant and implement changes to do so.
Quality: Monitor and track the quality performance of the plant utilities. Respond to quality upsets and work to provide corrective actions as needed.
Productivity/Continuous Improvement: Monitor and track plant efficiencies in materials and energy usage. Use continuous improvement techniques, to identify opportunities and implement process and procedure changes to increase plant efficiency.
Production support: Provide technical support to the plant utilities and operating units. Investigate root cause of operation issues and eliminate reoccurring issues.
Projects support: Provide technical support to the implementation of projects for the plant utilities and operating units, for basic and detail engineering. Ensure that commissioning and startup is provided.
Process Control Engineer: Support the current DCS Engineer
Provide support and troubleshooting for any process control related operational and maintenance field problems. Have thorough knowledge about control systems specifications and design related issues.
Act as a DCS system reference/information source to the plant and provide operations and plant maintenance groups with the system technical support required.
Support modifications to DCS database, Plant schematics, control programs and logic as required.
Design, configuration and implementation of Emergency Shutdown System (ESD).
Provide support to auxiliary systems PLCs like Allen Bradley etc, and compressors control systems.
Review, design, and troubleshoot DCS and auxiliary systems networking and integration related issues like Aspen IP.21.
Provide support to E&I for maintenance and projects.
Review control systems project proposals and design packages. Conduct equipment factory acceptance test (FAT) and site acceptance test (SAT); hot cutover, commissioning; and support new projects startup.
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering.
Experience in the petrochemical industry. Typical experience level would be 10-15 years.
Technical proficiency in engineering principles acquired through education and experience.
Experience in process control with Honeywell Experion, HPM, or Delta V
Strong working knowledge of P&ID’s, PFD’s & Loop Sheets
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Experience in carbon black industry and NOx/SOx scrubbing is a plus
Familiarity with computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Aspen IP.21, AutoCAD, process modeling and data analysis.
Under minimal supervision, approach problems with creativity and respect for all personnel.
Strong work ethic and addresses issues with a high level of personal integrity.
Ability to work well in a diverse environment.
Good communication skills, both oral and written.
