We are seeking a Materials Development Engineer for our Auburn Hills, MI Corporate Office in the Research and Development Department.
Our R & D team has created several patented composite formulations to help customers meet design and regulatory challenges. Our overall system approach results in the design and production of the highest quality composite parts in the marketplace today.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) formulation development projects.
Perform all tasks in the development process including formulating, compounding, molding, mechanical property testing, and production plant trials.
Compile data, analyze results, and make recommendations for project reviews.
Provide updates on development progress to group leaders on a regular basis.
Work with the group leader and other R&D team members to secure new SMC approvals.
Operate as a team member during the product launch phase or new raw material introduction to the plant.
Participate on cross-functional teams to create unique technologies and materials solutions.
Active member of supplier technical teams.
Keeping/updating chemical inventories and SDSs.
Tracking KOPs when necessary.
Testing and record-keeping must comply with IATF-16949.
Work requires the completion of a Bachelor of Science or Masters degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry.
Solid knowledge of polymer chemistry with formulation experience preferred.
One year of composites/plastics experience preferred.
Knowledge of FTIR, TGA, DSC, GC/MS preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Applicant must be hands-on.
Working conditions will require some travel and overnight stays.
