We are currently seeking a Fiber Engineer to join our Telecom team and to support the Engineering department in Portland, OR. The Fiber Engineer will be responsible, but not limited to, the following:
Responsibilities:
Perform all aspects of network design of the fiber project.
Ensure work is effectively organized and delivered within appropriate timeframes. This work will include network design of a large dark fiber system, splicing, rerouting of proposed fiber based on field walkouts, and being the subject matter expert for all other employees.
Ensure field engineering activities comply with company and contract requirements and support overall construction schedule
Utilize field computer applications on laptop or notebooks to facilitate the control and collection of data for mapping (GPS/GIS/KMZ/AutoCAD), inspection, quantity performance, schedule performance, and subcontract administration.
Communicate and following up on findings from QA/QC inspections to CM and/or Subcontractor.
Update and maintain project documentation as required for Quality Control, job progress, and customer sign off.
Create and assist construction to log any Make Ready inspection reports.
Provide technical support for construction, including participation in construction planning.
Assist in collecting and reviewing daily redlines with CM.
Interface with on-site construction crews as required ensuring safety is maintained, quality of construction, adherence to overall project schedule, and tracking productivity goals.
Support the CM in achieving production tracking matrix.
Coordinate with the CM to assure completeness and correctness of design and construction documents. Plan, conduct, and monitor work in accordance with engineering construction plans and specifications.
Uphold responsibility to clearly identify issues requiring CM attention.
Uphold responsible for ongoing communication and timely identification of issues to the PM/CM, and pending or actual changes to the work performed and may impact costs, schedule, contract, or customer relationship.
Participate in and perform safety audits; in addition to ensuring housekeeping, storage, and work practices are adhered to: Maintain all necessary records.
Identify and log near misses and communicating appropriately.
Ensure SCO compliance
Possess a strong commitment to safety and projecting safety to others.
Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering or two years’ experience as a Fiber Engineer or similar and relative engineering experience.
Understanding GIS to design large fiber networks
Understanding of telephone industry standards, local telecom practices and procedures.
Understanding of local, city, state and governmental rules and regulations associated with permit requirements.
Splicing and network connectivity.
Understanding splice loss, reflectance, mode field diameter mismatch, Optical return loss, loss budget, link loss, etc.
Proficient with using Microsoft Office, Google Earth, IFC drawings CAD drawings splice schematics, FTQ360.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Critical thinking and problem solving.
Understanding of telephone industry standards, local telecom practices and procedures.
Time management; prioritizing work and documenting tasks.
Punctual for daily start time and meetings.
