IMI CCI is looking for a highly skilled, Welding Engineer in our Rancho Santa Margarita, CA location. The professional Welding Engineer will posses the ability to grasp and apply innovative techniques to create a more efficient work environment.

Overview
This position will report to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and includes Manufacturing Engineer duties as well as all phases of welding projects in a manufacturing environment. This role requires extensive knowledge in ASME Section III and IX, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, and API 6A.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities:
Evaluate current welding techniques and processes and make recommendations for enhancements.

Remain current in state-of-the-field advancements and incorporate new techniques as appropriate.

Produce welds and maintain overall quality

Ensure procedures and designs meet regulations (ASME Section IX, API 6A, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, NACE ISO 15156) and various customer requirements.

Design and develop new welding techniques, equipment, or fabrication procedures.

Qualify weld procedures, welders, and define requirements and approve weld material.

Maintain records for all weld procedures, qualifications, welders, and weld material.

Coordinate/determine the root cause of weld issues both in-house and out in the field. Implement changes to prevent future occurrences.

Review supplier weld procedures to determine if they meet contract requirements.

Review proposals to determine welding impact on costs and lead times.

Maintain the weld material storage area.

Skills/Qualifications

5+yrs heavy weld experience required

Strong mechanical background relating to welding and assembly

Proficient with measuring instruments, hand tools, scales and welding gauges. (tape measures, calipers, dial indicators, electric and pneumatic hand tools)

Welding Inspection certification required – AWS CWI

AWS certified Weld Engineer desired

Ability to read, analyze and interpret drawings, standards, welding codes and other technical documents

Ability to effectively communicate information to internal/external customers

Must work well with others in an office and shop environment.

Qualifications
Education

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required or Metallurgical Engineering or associate degree (Welding Engineering)

Certification of equivalent experience in GMAW, GTAW, SAW, SMAW, PTAW

Inlay and overlay machine knowledge

ASME Section IX

AWS CWI certification required
Minimum 5years experience w/demonstrated results in manufacturing shop
