ABOUT POET PLANT MANAGEMENT
Our 28 Bioprocessing facilities produce over 1.9 billion gallons of ethanol, 5 million tons of Dakota Gold distillers grain animal feed and 600 million pounds of our Voila® corn oil. That’s a lot of product! In addition, we provide CO2 to the beverage industry and contribute to sustainable roadways. We also buy 650 million bushels of corn per year from local producers. It is our role at POET Plant Management to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable operations at each facility.
The Environmental Engineer analyzes real time bioprocessing facility data, environmental permits, and regulations to identify areas with opportunity to enhance performance of the POET bioprocessing facilities. The Environmental Engineer also supports the engineering and construction functions of POET Design & Construction, which delivers the best design and technology innovations in the industry. In this role, you will design and drive continuous improvement projects related to environmental compliance and create value through innovative permitting.
A TYPICAL DAY
Provide training and oversight to bioprocessing team members related to environmental SOPs and programs.
Develop environmental SOPs and implement improvement projects.
Collaborate with the environmental key stakeholders to develop performance indicators, compliance tracking systems, and other management reporting tools.
Obtain new permits for greenfield projects and oversee environmental compliance during the construction process.
Obtain permit modifications for changes in bioprocessing facility operations and expansions that provide clear and flexible requirements.
Support efforts to develop environmental compliance programs at the bioprocessing facilities, including data collection, testing and reporting requirements.
Research applicable federal, state, and local government program requirements. Review bioprocessing facility programs to assure that plants comply with all governmental regulations and that all applicable report templates are current.
Collect data, maintain records, train team members, and manage filing systems for environmental compliance.
Provide support for bioprocessing facilities by completing environmental compliance reviews, plant inspections, and other activities related to continually improving performance.
Work with our partners outside of PPM to support environmental needs, including our legal team.
Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
You have a bachelor’s degree in Engineering; with Environmental, Chemical, Civil, or Biosystems Engineering preferred.
You have experience obtaining and complying with environmental permits and programs. Five or more years of experience related to Clean Air Act programs in an industry setting is preferred.
You have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Engineering examination. A Professional Engineering license is a plus.
You are a champion of safety and environmental stewardship.
You have the technical aptitude to learn and understand the biofuels production processes.
You strive for continuous improvement – Never Satisfied.
You are skilled with Microsoft Office Suite and capable of learning new programs.
You have excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to adapt to change.
You establish and foster trusting relations with others at all levels of the organization and with regulatory agencies.
