Position Details:
The Manufacturing Engineer (CNC Machining) develops and maintains detailed process plans, computer numerical control (CNC) programs, and all supporting documentation for metal component machining. This position is responsible for detailed process definition utilizing lathes and multi-axis mills (including 5-axis simultaneous motion), CNC program creation utilizing advanced computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software, and all process documentation. This position requires detailed knowledge of conventional metal machining methods and tool selection to achieve desired geometries and tolerances.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and document detailed production process plans for metal component manufacturing.
Design work holding fixtures for CNC machining operations to ensure design tolerances can be met, and to minimize machine setup times.
Select cutting techniques and tools for CNC machining of metal components to meet design tolerances with a focus on efficient metal removal and reduction of machining time.
Develop CNC programs for all lathe and mill operations with detailed machine setup and run instructions, focusing on efficient metal removal while maintaining ability to meet design tolerances and specifications.
Ensure production readiness of all manufacturing processes prior to starting the first operation in the manufacturing sequence.
Support machinists and supervisors throughout the manufacturing process to ensure timely and successful component production.
Support product engineers and program managers regarding design changes and resolution of non-conforming products.
Continuously improve manufacturing capability and effectiveness.
Ensure safety of employees throughout the production process.
Ensure the Quality Management system is incorporated in manufacturing processes.

To qualify for this position, an individual must possess the knowledge, training, experience and abilities required.

Education and Training

Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Ten years of manufacturing experience in a CNC machining environment.
Five years of direct CNC programming experience for lathes and mills with advanced 3D CAM software.
Experience with common CNC controls (Fanuc, Mazatrol, Okuma, Siemens, etc.) with thorough understanding of M&G machine code.
Experience reading engineering drawings, including a solid understanding of common geometric dimensioning and tolerancing practices per ASME Y14.5.
Experience working in an ISO/AS certified company.

Must be willing to work overtime as required.
Some support for off-shift production required (phone or occasionally in plant).
Minimal travel required (less than 10% of working time).

Desired Job Qualification:
Some hands-on experience running CNC lathes and/or mills desired.
Experience creating CNC programs for complex geometries requiring 5-axis simultaneous motion is highly desired.
Experience machining (or programming for) specialty metallurgies (duplex steels, high-nickel alloys, titanium, etc.).
A general ability to maintain/modify post processors for CNC programming.
