The Mechanical Engineer, Composites Process Development (PD) conducts manufacturing process development efforts for the Meggitt Engine Systems-Engines Composites Product Group. Supporting Applied Research and Technology (AR&T), New Product Introduction (NPI) and Continuous Improvement (CI) efforts, the Mechanical Engineer is responsible for developing manufacturing processes and demonstrating those processes are fully capable of meeting critical requirements. The Mechanical Engineer will identify key process parameters and identify proper process controls to control these parameters. In support of production programs, the Mechanical Engineer will ensure proper Engineering disciplines will be applied to RCCA and DoE efforts, and process changes will be validated prior to introduction into production. The Mechanical Engineer will work with Customer and Supplier engineering teams to ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Affordability (DFA) and VAVE inputs are provided and addressed.
Position will be located in Erlanger, KY and will require some travel to other Meggitt sites and Customer locations (Travel <10%).
Job Core Responsibilities
Develops and demonstrates capable manufacturing process
Conduct Applied Research and Technology (AR&T) projects to mature technologies to production readiness (TRL6/MCRL5)
Identify and write specifications for lab and production equipment for composite manufacturing
Completes statistical analysis of inspection data to determine process capability
Evaluates manufacturing process capability against customer and business requirements
Creates development plans and budget estimates and manages plans within schedule and budget limitations
Provides DFM/DFA inputs to customers and suppliers based on process capability analysis and assessments
Evaluates results of manufacturing process trials and process simulations
Oversees process trials and tests
Develops project plans and manages work for participants in Meggitt Graduate program
Education : Degree in Engineering (minimum)
Years Experience : 2 - 5 years of relevant experience in manufacturing process design, development and validation for aerospace composite structures, parts and assemblies.
Basic understanding of composites and their applications.
Understanding of Mechanical design, specifically in regards to mold and tooling design.
Strong skills in CAD and experience designing fixtures and assemblies as manufacturing aids.
Basic understanding of operation and application of automation equipment.
Adaptable to changing requirements and situations.
Experience with statistical analysis of manufacturing process capability
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Familiarity with Manufacturing Capability Readiness Level assessment and development process.
Advanced computer literacy (programming skills preffered).
