Join our research group Automation Runtime Systems located in Princeton, NJ, for a 3 – 9 month internship, and investigate new planning and scheduling building blocks for autonomous systems in diverse application areas such as advanced manufacturing in smart factories, smart grid, intelligent transportation systems, and robotics. Our close contact to different business units in Siemens provides the opportunity to contribute to and gain experience in real industrial applications. The CT Future of Automation Technology Field is seeking a highly motivated student available for a 3-9 month internship for our Princeton, NJ location in the area of robotics, automation, and real-time control for challenging problems arising in different industrial processes. The successful candidate will work with the Automation Runtime Systems Research Group (ART-US) to develop innovative proof of concepts (e.g., SpiderBots) based on existing Siemens software as well as hardware.

You will have the opportunity to test your knowledge in a challenging problem-solving environment. You will be encouraged to think out-of-the-box, innovate and find solutions to real-life problems. Our team has a strong publication record in leading journals and conferences.

What are my responsibilities?

You will implement concepts and solutions in prototypes.
Collaborate the development of a software prototype integrating multiple components (e.g. front-end and back-end level) to real-system;
Design, manufacture, and test system components (mechanical or electrical) whenever necessary;
Implement reusable, efficient, and maintainable software component using main stream programming languages;
Incubate innovative concepts and develop publications or patents;

What skills are needed to qualify for this internship?

A current BS, MS, or PhD student in Engineering, Computer Science or Mathematics,
Experience in advanced algorithm prototyping,
Good programming knowledge in C, C++, and python e.g. writing reusable code
Practical experience in research on robotics, automation, autonomy, planning, and scheduling
Drive and motivation for career development and open to take responsibilities for challenging tasks;
Team player which can also be independent, prioritize work and thrives in a fast-paced dynamic environment;
Successful candidate must be able to work with controlled technology in accordance with US Export Control Law.
