The Joining and Assembly Engineering Manager will work with commercial leaders to understand our customer and business needs for competitiveness in the market. He/She will also work with divisional engineering leaders to understand operational performance of our current technologies and areas of needed improvement. From these inputs the Joining and Assembly Engineering Manager will lead a team of engineers and lab technicians to research and advance all joining and assembly processes at Shape Corp.
Essential Job Functions include, but not limited to, the following:
Advancement of all welding processes.
Advancement of fixture strategies through dimensional management.
Advancement of mechanical fastening technologies.
Understanding of emerging joining technologies.
Develop and maintain a strategic vision for areas of responsibility.
Research, create and maintain technology roadmaps.
Facilitate the development and implementation of the strategic plan.
Communicate vision to the team.
Develop and maintain systems to manage the daily functions of the team.
Track and manage human capacity.
Generate and manage project charters focused on advancing joining and assembly processes.
Focus on both solving operational problems and enabling new products.
Develop and execute on process simulation strategies.
Foster employee engagement and people development.
Manage the functions of the engineering team as defined by the position descriptions.
Lead meetings with project teams; identify project objectives, deliverables and desdlines.
Conduct timely and complete performance evaluations of direct team members. Ensure timely and complete performance evaluatuons of team members reporting under your indirect supervision.
Assess employee skill sets, current and future development needs and take steps to mentor and develop individuals within the team.
Foster a culture of data driven decision making.
Set department direction and hold individuals accountable to performance standards and strategic objectives.
Execute and influence global standards.
Execute to the corporate engineering standards.
Collaborate with the global engineering teams to ensure new standards are understood and effective.
Influence corporate technical training in functional area.
Effectively communicate with customers, suppliers, direct reports and stakeholders.

Bachelor's degree in an engineering or related field.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in engineering preferably in the automotive industry.
Prior experience managing team members.
Advanced project management skills.
Proven experience effectively managing stakeholders across functions at all levels of the organization.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Travel is occasionally required, up to 10% of the time
